If they do this what we can expect about campfire manners

I just don't understand how some people must think (though I doubt that "think" is the right word).

Hate seeing campfire ash everywhere. I was taught, lift the turf off and place out of the way, dig a pit for the fire.

When finished, dump the dirt back into the hole, tamp it down and replace the turf. Should like like no one has been there.

Just attempting to read between the lines here, but it sounds like this was someone the OP knows who got a bit tipsy and did something silly?
At any given point in time, somewhere in the world someone is working on a Land-Rover.

    Certainly annoying and irresponsible.
I was shocked recently to see a magazine article in which the writer actually recommended burning rubbish in campfires. I had to reread it to make sure I'd read it correctly.

why not?, some locations would make it hard to carry bags of rubbish, why not burn the stuff you can?.

How hard is it to carry your rubbish out Yorkie? Unless you're taking other peoples' rubbish out, you can't have more rubbish than kit you carried in.
Back to the point of the post...poor form Mick, very poor form.

maybe i should have been clearer, on extended trips when hygiene would be an issue.

Fair call mate. I spend most of my "road time" in a truck and the passenger footwell can become a pig-sty until I find a proper place to dispose of the rubbish. I abhor litter anywhere.
