AFAIK the bonnets from late '90s on and more particularly the TD5s are not strong enough in standard form to carry a spare (but I would guess that strengthening could be done).
The bonnets after the TD5 have a raised section, and a spare on this would inhibit visibility for the driver.
If it is earlier than the above a spare wheel kit is (or was) available, otherwise a Series bonnet mount can be pop riveted onto your bonnet.
While the standard non-spare bonnet support will work, it may be advisable to strengthen it as per the army Pretendie bonnet stay (this version does not does not have a spare tyre mounting on the bonnet). The Defender mounting kit mentioned above included a stronger stay.
