Indeed. Personally I don't care if they're not available tomorrow, I just need one when I turn 80 or so, :wheelchair: plenty of time for them to get their act together. Probably cars will get more sensors in various wavelengths, e.g. infra red, and some new computer architecture to deal with a massive amount of parallel inputs.
EDIT: Sorry. Don't know why it did that. I tried to link to a story on Jalopnik which argues that a company with Uber's 'fast and loose' culture should not be testing autonomous cars on public roads.
I would largely agree with this and say that there needs to be a lot more oversight on self-driving car development. Accidents (and sadly fatalities) happen in all industries as a result of chasing progress but those accidents rarely occur on the public highway.
