Man released from Physciatric facility kills his girlfriend. There are questions to be answered.

Chinatown murder accused was released from inpatient facility a week ago
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

The prosecutors could not show or prove murder to the court and he pled guilty to manslaughter.

His sentence appears to be in line with what’s typical for this type of offence.

A lot of the comments online, in The Age for example, don’t appear to understand there is actually a difference at law between murder and manslaughter.

This mob justice attitude is beginning to really p*** me off. The courts don’t sentence on the basis of tabloid outrage, nor should they ever.

You are kidding me right? You are serious?
Let’s look at the fcats -
    He lied from day one
    He dumped her body
He changed his story multiple times
He made up stories “she ran off overseas with another bloke”
He turned off his & her phones
He pled guilty at the last minute.

Now - do you have a wife or daughter? How would you feel if it was your loved one?

I suspect that it wasn’t pre-meditated, they had a fight and (I guess) he either strangled her, bashed her or (best case) she fell and hit her head.

Wouldn’t an innocent person ring an ambulance?

It saddens me that people like yourself like hugging trees so much.

You don't seem to understand the difference between murder (which requires intent - what you refer to as premeditation) and manslaughter (which doesn't require intent). No-one said he was innocent - he did after all admit to killing her, but in the absence of proof of murder that's where it stands.

And what the *** does tree hugging have to do with anything? Understanding and defending the rule of law isn't a environmentalist affectation.

You didn’t answer my question - how would you feel if it was your mother, daughter or wife?

Would you stand in front of the judge and say “this man has taken the life of my loved one. But you can’t prove exactly how, so manslaughter it is”

I shakes my head and walks away...

Oh and I do think that you have an affectation, but I shall not repeat it here. Law & Order is STUFFED.

Personally I think he's as guilty as hell, but with no proof there's no chance of a conviction, that's the rules. Once the rules start to get bent or broken it's a slippery slope. Would you like to be accused of an offence, if there were no rules?

To answer your question, it wouldn't matter if the victim was my mother, daughter, wife or friend - the distinction between murder and manslaughter would still stand.

Edit: Oh, and FYI - that's not a theoretical position, it did happen to someone I knew, as my first partner was the victim of an attempted rape and murder. Neither succeeded due to her presence of mind and strength. And that was after he'd shot her.
