I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Same thing is happening here as in the American industrial heartland - globalisation and computerisation is hollowing out the industrial workforce as trade jobs are sent overseas to cheaper economies, leaving the retrenched workers trying to find other jobs. You can only turn so many tradies into baristas or cleaners before no more are needed.

Probably true mate, but there are also other reasons.
Do some homework & see why workers from the soon to be closed Hazelwood plant are unable to gain employment at Loy Yang.

We seem to want our cake and be able to eat it too. We have turned into a country that wants top $$ wages but yet we want everything the cheapest and don't hesitate to buy the cheapest no matter where it's from. Dick Smith has said it for ages and nothing seems to be changing.

All industries need to be able to sell their wares to generate income to employ and survive , seems to be as a country we don't seem to want to practice what we all preach.

    Cheers Ean

WELL SAID, not a truer comment could be made.

IF ALL Australians went out of their way and purchased AUSTRALIAN MADE products and stopped bitching that they are more expensive we as a nation would be better off....

Is the imported product really cheaper if there is no longer an Australian made product on offer and you dont have a job?????

I do my part as best I can...
*I buy Austalian made/produced (with preference to WA local) products when I shop including, condiments, coffee, sugar, cat food (no i dont eat cat food), seafood, all groceries, to the point I for go treats that come from overseas. With the exception of NZ products, I'm more than happy to support NZ as much as Australia.

I believe that is the basics we should all do as a nation....

I buy oz when I get the choice as I can AFFORD to.
But I would bet that most unemployed locals and the underpaid backpackers, fruitpickers, illegal workers and 7-11 foreigners being scammed by their employers would buy the cheapest possible.
Throw in that a lot of those complaining about a skills shortage also contributed to it by either not putting on enough trainees, or Putting people in power who would cut training programs are actually causing more unemployment and have cut wages by about 10%!
    This article is interesting:
Now that we know where wage stagnation can lead

We have always purchased our seafood from a very well known Perth business, to the point where we have made special trips down to Perth to "bulk" purchase from them and bring a couple of fridge loads of fresh and frozen product back home - only to find recently that this business is importing a lot of their "local" product from Asia.

Needless to say - that particular "Perth family" business won't be seeing us again.

Was a travelling seafood truck in Kalgoorlie last week, selling mostly product from South Australia - he got some good business from us.
    Cheers .........
