Day 2 - More digging... Here they have basically finished the cut, but have yet to tidy up the edges.
Another view:
Here you can see the shed, and the house... It is going to be nice to put the "daily" cars in the garaged (instead of workshop / the Series II Roger):
They haven't finished the driveway yet - but for those of you that have been to my house, you can see how the driveway is now steeper... (This will be leveled off):
And closer to the house:
Day 3 - A big truck came and delivered some new driveway crushed rock.. Where is Alien when you need him?
(Even though it looks like they were getting rid of fill, the truck was just parking)
Here you can see the "back" of the shed - basically I think that the cut is 90% complete. Bottom right hand of this picture is a pink mark - that's the back of the shed.
You can see that they have smoothed off the cut..
At the far end (what's left of the dog run, now the orchard) you can see they've done the same thing - smoothed off the edges. Is it called "batter" ??
And now they have laid the rock (delivered earlier) - here I am at the front of the house, looking down the driveway to the front gate:
Here I am looking back up towards the house. Gav - you can see that they re-used the original driveway rock on the access road, and have smoothed out that too.
The basic plan is - concrete slab, 24x9 shed - and then re-do the driveway (and new parking area) with this crushed rock...
Brad (the site cut / concrete guy) has only done this initial crushed rock so that we can drive up/down the driveway easily, as rain is forecast tonight/tomorrow and he doesn't want it to get too muddy.
I would love to do concrete or bitumen for the entire driveway but I haven't won tattslotto yet... Our driveway is 90mtrs long, and the new parking area is quite large in size also..
There has only been 2 guys working on the site. The other guy (not sure of his name) bought his 17 year old son to look at the 101 - the kid have never seen anything like it.. The kids name was Tom and he said: "Wow dad, it's even got a centre diff lock"..
When speaking to the other guy I said: "Wow, you moved pretty quick on this cut" and he said: "Yeah, there was a fire at the Broadford Paper Mill and I have to go and move 1500 tonnes of paper". I asked what would happen to it and he said that it was being taken down to Melbourne, to be used in a furnace!
Update: It's now bucketing down - which according to Brad is a good thing as it will help to compact the soil.
Quite a lot has been done in 2.5 days..

So how did it hold up to the rain? We've had just shy of 2 inches in the last 24 hours but some places got more - you need your gumboots to get around?

Well let's just say that some remedial work needs to be done after the big rain yesterday/last night/today.
The drain hasn't been installed yet.. SWMBO nearly got bogged in the driveway this morning when leaving for work... I got out ok in the mighty Skoda (it was bucketing down and dark when I left).
We've been asked to stay off the driveway for a few days while everything dries out... That works okay for me - as we are heading off on our trip come Thursday of this week.. It would be great to come back to a finished driveway, and have the slab poured.. Fingers crossed.

Hi All,
I've been away on holidays - and while the shed slowed down quite a bit, there was some progress while I was away...
Here they have put down the crushed rock, and started digging the holes for the footings.. Interestingly - they hit rock and had to use jack hammers for some of these holes:
In this next picture - you can see that the there is a depression. This is the second bay, where the hoist is going.. (Double thickness concrete and double rebar). Unfortunately you can also see that the weather turned bad - which has delayed things significantly:
In the meantime - there was a lot of branches to burn off.. When clearing the site, I also took the opportunity to tidy up a lot of the tree's along the driveway and fence lines.. It was quite a pile by the time that I had finished:
The Grey Ghost was a great help with moving all of the branches around - I find the more that I drive him, the happier he is:
And now that I am home, and the fire restrictions have lifted (verified with a call to the council) - I started to burn off:
Because they hit rock when digging the holes for the footings - they have had to empty the water out, 3 times now...
They have also created a drain - above the shed... I've seen it in action, and it works quite well when it's ****ing down...
Another update to come...

The other job that they did - was to dig the trench from the house to the shed (for the power). Trench is 600mm deep, with conduit in it ready to go:
Fast forward a few days.. Actually more like a few weeks - due to bad weather..
They came out today and finished boxing the concrete up, laid the plastic, the little feet things and the rebar... The concrete is scheduled to be poured tomorrow...
Cheers,
Grey Ghost.
