That's my only beef about this. The politicians should do their job. Not have a public poll and then still potentially vote whichever way they want.

politicans dont accurately know what the people want.

i like the idea of the postal vote.
    its direct democracy
    it sets a precident
it asks the people what they want. not what politicians or lobbies or donars what

ask more questions. should of asked 20 questions on the sheet, not just 1.

Agree, I had a good conversation with my 17yo son on the way to work today.....he asked why did I vote yes....

In my response I said it was more for complicated than just a yes or no....I was on the fence and neither the yes or no campaign really swayed me....as like normal all they do is attack the other mob.

I still think the one question is fine but they could have developed a document for the on the fencers decide one way or the other as the campaign got lost in the attacks.

As Joe has pointed out, I also took into account that SSM spill no go away until the law is changed given the number of other countries that have already supported SSM.

Over the years we have been fortunate enough to live next to two same sex couples, right up there with the best neighbors we have had.

I'm not religious or aligned to any religion therefore I didn't have this to confuse things more.

Another big factor is what's it's costing us tax payers.......

    Anyway, I have voted.....YES

no. 1 son thanked me for taking him through my decision.

I don't think this should be a public debate/vote, should just change the law and be done with it - since when do they consult us to make or change laws ?
By making it as public as it is it has just brought out all the bigots and un-educated morons out f the woodwork.

The sentiment of making it a public debate may be correct, but the fact it isn't legally binding makes the whole thing pointless.

It really doesn't matter what argument the no camp makes. If it's religion, the law is and should be secular, this isn't forcing religious people to marry same sex couples.

If it's the violation of the scantity of marriage, I think the ridiculous divorce and domestic violence rates have already done that.

If you are saying this means little kids are taught to where dresses, that's ridiculous, safe schools isn't about SSM, it's about ensuring the youth of tomorrow are looked after and to reduce bullying. It's actually a decent program. Likely going to be poorly run like everything done by the government though.

This isn't meant to start a political debate, each to their own I say - but that there is the point. Each to their own. I like Land Rovers, my mates like Toyota's/Nissan's etc. Same legal rights, hell, even Volvo drivers have them!

You just have to ask yourself, are you a decent human being? If not, just vote yes to get it over and done with. The/your world won't cave in. I promise.

And sorry to the chap who started this thread, you just wanted it all over with and now this has happened, however many comments on it hahaha.

    Joe

Last night I caught up with some gay couples I used to go to uni with they all voted no. Their reasoning (given most of them studied law or political science) was that it was not about gay rights at all, but about lessening the actual meaning/worth of 'marriage' by the cultural marxists in our midsts. With marriage losing it's intrinsic value, less people get married, more people get divorced so more people become reliant on the State and it slowly breaks up the fabric of society. Not for just this reason, but for a multitude of other reasons, their view was that Western Civilisation was heading for a big, big crash within the next generation. The formula they said over coffee was "Cultural Marxists plus Useful Idiots plus Sheeple equals Decline of the West". They gave me a few eBooks to browse including one called "The Strange Death of Europe" but have yet to catch up with their reasoning as I haven't read any of them yet. Strange times we live in!

It's a bloody disgrace. If I was in control of things I'd just make it happen ... I don't give two ****s either way. But if people want some shiny piece of paper that says "married" ... that brings all the legal mumbo jumbo into the equation, who am I to say no ? Why the hell is this even a question ? Can the government possibly get any more **** at the job there supposed to be doing ? ( no I don't want them to prove they can do a more appalling job than they are even doing now).

My biggest issue with the mail out is there is no box that say " I don't give a ****. FFS government do what the hell we pay you to do".

The last thing I care about is what religious people think ... Yes, they think it's disgusting gays could marry ... but allowing kiddy fiddlers in the organisation is perfectly fine... Infct lets move them around for decades so they can destroy childrens lives everywhere.

I think that it's sad that each side (yes and no) are showing such anger, contempt and lack of respect for the other side. It's sad that people can't have differing opinions without getting angry at each other.. Oh well - ducks for cover.
