Interesting comparison....Toyota is king of ICE.
Towing could be the way to get around long range trips, just use a trailer full of batteries hooked up to the car, and by having other trailers strategically placed along the route it would hardly take any longer to re-fuel than a petrol or diesel.

I found it interesting that both cars are 130K , something lost in the comparison,
I wonder how resale values will compare in 5 years , The Tesla will hold value better than the 200 series unless new ones are much cheaper (as will one expected the way battery tech is evolving) . I'd think a 200 in really good nick will be about 80k in 5 years.
Didn't expect the Tesla pulling the van would still out accelerate the unladen 200 , and the fact the Tesla has a higher GVM also surprised me.
It really depends on how the Tesla is used over 5 years. If it was used to tow distance and therefore supercharged to 100% every 150-200km multiple times a day , I would suspect the battery would be trashed after 5 years. The range loss would be significant. The resale value would then depend on the ease and cost of renewing the battery pack.
I found it interesting that my D4,when towing a van well over 150% of the weight of the van they used, uses way less fuel than the LC200 did.
It will be interesting to see what happens in the next 5 to 10 yrs with Ev's.
Thousands of charging points are going to be needed all over the country for them to become popular.
Not just a couple here or there.
As for resale, hybrids and Ev,s at the moment have very poor resale.
This is probably partly due to their initial cost, which hopefully will reduce rapidly over the next few years.
If battery, and EV technology continues to improve rapidly, this won't help resale values of the older EV's.
Diesels and petrol will fall behind EVs in value as more EVs are sold and charging points become plentiful.
Why would you buy an ICE vehicle that costs more than $100 to fill when you can have an EV that can be charged almost free on home solar?
EVs will also need far less servicing and maintenance because they are so much simpler.
Think about lawn mowers and chain saws. Petrol models are being replaced by battery powered models.
Same will happen with vehicles.
Why would you buy an ev at all? Think lease or pay per ride. They could be recycled/refreshed by manufacturer at service end. The end of private resale is coming.
Seen two of the new Nissan Leaf EVs this week. Looks a good package.
