You did well if that fixed it,some used the heater safety klixon, in the evaporator,to power the defrost timer,during the cooling cycle.
If the sensor was shagged,the timer wouldnt go.
But the timer would be powered if turned, during the actual defrost cycle,only to stop when it clicked off the cycle,losing power again.
Most,if not all Jap fridges were wired this way,Mitsy,Hitachi,etc.Only some F&P were like this,not all.
