Just went to my local (one of the big two) supermarket, for some iced coffee. The dairy cabinet was all but empty. Apart from the staff manning the checkouts, I passed four workers picking orders.
Upon finding nil stock of the item I wanted, I approached the closest order picking staff member, asking if there was any of what I was after, out the back. The reply was that there would be, but the restocking staff didn't start til 11.00am. I asked her to go and get me some, you'd have thought I'd asked her for a kidney! She did, with reluctance, get what I wanted.
I noted that the bulk of the staff, on the floor, were doing shopping for millennials, who are so precious that they are unable to do their own shopplng.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

The one I go to most often, stack their shelves at night so early morning is the best time. Also the best time to score a half price special before they're all snaffled up.
    Cheers, Billy.

    Really?

What an inconsiderate bastard you are! Expecting Staff to down tools or box Knives to assist a customer in need of an Iced Coffee?. Do you realise they have to keep up with latest news, of who got the sack over the Manager being in" close contact" with some of his/her employees Why did they blame Covid after all this time, naaaahhh I reckon there was summat dodgy going on near the weighing up section out the back.

Obviously they have never been in that predicament where it is a matter of Life & Death.

I see, ****ed again were they?

Maybe they keep the stock out the back, Des, so save having to reorder.

But but but, when they have exhausted the out the back stock known as (OTBS in supermarket parlance/ marketing language) won't they need more to keep out the back for someone to get the ****z over when asked by a customer?

Exactly,in fact what really ****es me off,is going to a couple of shops, wasting time,as they don't have what you want anyway.
The days of having a well stocked shop of whatever, are long gone.

Order on line, get exactly what you want, usually turns up the next day or so(that is if the sender avoids Aus Post).

Certain events earlier this decade did it for me. Shopping was verboten here in Melb., so online it was, and now why would I go back? All the little guys who knew their stuff disappeared and I see no reason to support one multinational who doesn't deliver over one who does. Just need to be brand cautious I guess. FWTW.
