Got an email from my ISP warning me of an NBN outage on 04/02/2024. So, that's ok then, I must have missed it...

Why must we dumb down? AFAIK the only place that uses that particular date format is the North American continent, although I admit I have not looked it up. This ISP claims to be Australian.

The main reason is that most of the software is written in the US. But you should know that the USA is the centre of the universe, and also the centre of the English language.

Just home from hospital & I reckon they must have buried summat evil in her Weetbix 'cos she ain't the same person that the Ambos took in a week ago. Gave her a meal at lunchtime & talk about instant tranquilisers. Some of the things that she had spouted,I'd never heard it from her in the past. Those Ward Nurses may have a lot to answer for when Divorce Proceedings commence!!! I'm sure she thinks she is at the Ritz-Carlton.

Another one.. Anyone else get middle of the night texts warning of dire consequences if a toll remains unpaid? I know these things go out in the millions, and the numbers are false, but they must travel over the telco's networks ( Telstra in this instance ). Surely they have the tech to prevent this?

Yes, and they won WWII single handed despite the late start, they have the best education, political and legal systems on Earth, and nobody else invented anything.

Given that more people speak English in India than the rest of the world put together I wonder where the US get their ideas.

PS, I've just discovered that the telco in question is based in South Melbourne, which explains a lot. I'd email them, but they only use wotsap, and I don't.

Is that really essential to sending an E-mail? I thought it would be sufficient just to have their E-Mail Addy.

Was in Manchester airport as it seems that Australia has opened its borders and everyone is pouring out and doing the same saw the light on thought we would drop in routine. Have had friends and relatives seemly non stop since early December last year. Could be worse I suppose no one might want to visit

On the way out of departures thought would grab a bottle of drink for the drive home. Went to the newsagent took one look at the queue and decided would pay the extra and grab one from the vending machine

Once upon a time you put some coin in and pressed the numbers and it gave you what you asked for. Then they added the option to pay by tapping your card. So why and who thought it would be a good idea to now require you to download and sign up to an app to be able select your drink and pay ??????

Same at many unmanned remote service stations. Instead of simply inserting your card and typing your PIN, you have to download the app. On my recent trip via Boulia, to Alice and return via Cameron's, not once did I use IOR, didn't have the app.

Try the EV charging via apps where the netwrok/broke (deliberate miss typed) stops you from starting in country locations where our phone services are rock solid

Then add several types of charging services none of which allow a single application to pay. Now one starts by charging $30 before you start. (evie charging network) It then adjusts to the actual cost once you finish. For me that's well under $30

Happy to add you can call each of their support lines to get them to start charging.

As this is a grumpy old bugger thread, I'll add many early adopters of one kind of car companies very slow charging types have items that cost a lot and are really useless for anyone not staying for a day or more. More than a few councils spent your money on them.
