The same applies to all vaccines - the ones that have been around for a century or more we know how effective they are, and some are very effective - but none of them guarantee you will not get infected. There is nothing special about either the disease or the vaccines that makes them different to other vaccines that have been around for years as far as effectiveness goes.

A special situation exists because this is a new highly infectious* disease, that almost nobody has any existing immunity to it, which means that until a substantial proportion of the population is vaccinated (or survived infection), anybody infected is almost certain to pass it on. Recent data shows that vaccination may not prevent infection in all cases, but certainly prevents detectable infection in most cases (and if the infection is not detectable, it will not be passed on).

So long as it is not with your life, one hopes eh?

I feel sure the progressive improvement & testing for all the Vaxs will be an ongoing thing.

It would be rude not to.

It's certainly confusing. We're probably all confused.
I'm not sure about other states, but up here, as I understand it, Qld VAX hubs are receiving 52,000 Pfizer's a week and that's what all the VAX hubs are offering. AZ supplies are being sent to GPs. Maybe that will change.
As I understand the PM's announcement, the medical advice hasn't changed, but anyone can ask their GP for AZ.
I had AZ through my GP and am booked for the second jab in August.
My wife's GP wanted her to have Pfizer for medical reasons and sent her to the Caloundra VAX hub where she got Pfizer in 90 mins.
The AMA says it wasn't warned about the change in advice for AZ.

They also don’t have a slot they could fit me into at all so a simple ‘You’ll need to go elsewhere to get Pfizer’

Vic Health were pretty much useless and repeatedly tried to put me through to others or have me refer to their website which doesn’t give any info.

So, will have to keep waiting another 4 weeks at the moment. Yes, certainly benefits as far as getting the second dose quickly but still makes me shake my head about how slow the rollout is here.

The second wave happening now shows we shouldn’t have dragged out heals so much on this.
I listened as Greg Hunt stated this morning that Astra has always being available to anyone over 18, (the atagi recomendations were just that, not mandatory, is what my understanding was from earlier announcements)

Mind you there was still the 'groups' of eligibility though that limited who could at the start.

Now that GPs' can relax with their insurer out of the picture I wonder what will transpire, now they are free to advise as they see fit.

Hunt said there would be a new Medicare item number for it.

GPs are tired. Poor buggers. At least they have a secure well paid job. …Isn’t that why they get paid the big bucks?

Does that give the GP a greater payment for the consultation? Or just a different number just to track it as a covid consultation?

Edit....All good, post link above said payment to cover longer consultation

AND, just to put the icing on the cake, the hospital worker tested positive has the Delta variant. Happy days. She got tested as soon as she had symptoms, but the family went to Townsville, and Magnetic Island , and Sandgate woolworths. Lucky we shop IGA.
