A recent survey has indicated that up to 64% of kiwi's who are ill with a respiratory illness of one form or another are not getting tested.
What is of concern here is that none of the aged care residents testing positive had any symptoms. How many are out there thinking everything is ok, when it may not be. Out of the aged care residents only one was not vaccinated. There are signs that NSW residents are not taking the lock down seriously. edit, four in intensive care ,none ventilated at this time.

With the cruise ships capacity being around 3000 the problem of stranded Aussies will disappear very quickly......and so will the negative media reports.

Who knows what new variants are being created , we already had delta plus in India. How long before a variant comes along that current vaccines can not handle?. It seems beyond belief Australia finds itself in the situation it is in, over a year into the pandemic.

With respect, You can not stop covid from getting on to cruise ships. The CEO of Royal Caribbean Group, has stated that you can't eliminate covid in society , and you can't totally eliminate it on a cruise ship. So, what happens when covid spreads thru a cruise ship, where do you put the ships, who looks after the passengers health. Princess cruises had deaths on board from covid, wouldn't you think the media would have a field day then. And being vaccinated doesn't mean you don't get covid. It just may stop you from being placed on a ventilator, or dying.

Covid became an issue well over 12 months ago. The "poor stranded Aussies" have had that long to return, but now all of a sudden it's Government's fault, that they're protecting the homeland? How many of these "Aussies" are from India (insert your prefered country here),enjoying the benefits of being a rich Aussie living in a third world country. That in itself demonstrates their self-serving attitude. Prepared to risk 25 million genuine Aussies to save themselves. I'm sure there are genuinely compassionate grounds for a handful of travellers needing to be overseas, but the vast majority the reasons are financial or the aunt's cat just had kittens.

It would seem from this story Australia COVID: Why the queue to get home to Australia isn’t moving that a significant number are people who have planned to come home at a fixed date and have stayed overseas while practical and made plans to return which have now been thrown into uncertainty with the reduced caps. There is some good news at the bottom, however with the increase in positions available at Howard Springs, although that doesn make it any better if the airlines decide it is not viable to fly here anymore.
There are many overseas jobs that are taken on a fixed term, either dictated by the job itself or visa conditions.

I know an Aussie bloke and his French wife who were booked to come from Japan last year, the bookings were cancelled, their Land Rover was booked on a ship and had to be cancelled, they have spent many thousands on tickets, and they are now in Taiwan and have given up trying to get to Perth.
The recent problem here seems to be mainly caused by a sharp rise from April in the number of non-citizens approved to make short term visits to Australia.

Have been trying to phone someone here for weeks on & off, but can get no response. Then the penny dropped. I bet they went OS/UK & have been caught up in this mess. I don't have a Moby # or an E-mail Addy.

    I guess I will find out circa 2030 & then it won't matter a **** anyway.

If China decides to invade Taiwan in the meantime they could be in more strife than Ned Kelly. Who will look after them then?
