I didn't see it that way. He had missed his queue to step up to the mic. I figure that any opportunity to help people understand that they've got to do the right thing is welcome at this point.

Gonna be a quite day for the check in chics at brisbane airport.

Can see why the airlines need to pay off staff.

yeah it looks like cynical me was wrong and the media was right.

Yes, upon reflection, you are right. It just seemed clunky, almost in desperation. And almost as though the main players had lost the plot in getting the message out. No one is listening, and they don't know what to do next. That may not be the case, but it is the perception. And for the public of the locked down LGA's, many of whom don't have English as a first language, perception is important, I believe.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

Thet begs the question, are FIFO workers still being flown in from airfields like Archer field, or evenToowoomba or Redcliffe? Can the public fly to regional areas the same way? I guess it's the lock downs, not so much the virus, closing down the main players in the aviation game. Or is it?

    It was awkward.

I think the communication has worked with the ethnic communities. There's been a huge amount of work engaging with community leaders etc.

The groups of people that concern me are the tradies are are "too tough to get sick" along with certain other young male groups who feel that no one can tell them what to do, those that don't believe in COVID and the civil libertarians who have an issue with being told to stay put and where a mask.

I liked the area commanders performance up in Cairns yesterday. No mincing of words there. We need some of that down here to get through to these knuckleheads.

The other thig about these press conferences is the questioning that takes place. Some of the questions are so stupid especially about the relaxation of rules at the end of the month. For example, one asked that seeing as there were high rates of vaccination in certain parts o Sydney, could those people perhaps go for a picnic together or something like that. Can you imagine trying to police that? We can already see the liberties people take when different rules apply to different people. Those answering the question seem to miss the opportunity to give the obvious answer.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Iceland has been experiencing a surge in Delta variant infections despite the population being vaccinated to very high levels.

Covid 19 coronavirus: Iceland deals with growing Delta problem - NZ Herald

They are using the four different types of vaccine to varying levels. Their levels of total vaccination is very high and it is being used as a case study of the impact of Delta variant on a vaccinated population.

    From the article.

Reykjavík hospital data reveals infections remain proportionately far higher among the unvaccinated. But vaccination only offers moderate resistance to contracting the disease.
The big difference, however, is in the severity of the symptoms.
Previous outbreaks of non-Delta variants among much lower vaccination rates claimed 29 Icelandic lives. The latest outbreak – despite its size – has so far claimed none.

It'll be interesting to see the results of some further analysis in due course.

I see this as a valuable lesson to be picked up by leaders who think that vaccination alone will be their panacea. This data puts numbers to the game they are playing. It will still require hard out restrictions and management to keep the numbers of infections to levels the health system can manage. People are still going to get sick. It will be very interesting to see whether vaccines impact on "long covid" or the aftermath of infection in any way. Still a way off having useful data on that one.

Yes. For a while there in all East Coast States the questions at presser time were dominated by a certain media outlet which seemed to repeat over & over the same question, hoping to get some one to slip up, it seemed. It was almost manic reporting, purely to get the result they wanted. And one TV channel reported in their night time news what was discussed at a Qld press conference, and broadcast the news with small grabs of the presser, which completely misrepresented what was said. That's why I try to watch for myself, some of the media in this country seems to value ratings over the truth.

Since birth I have lived all over this State, and it is a truism that the further from the seat of power in S E Qld, the more Fair Dinkum people seem to be. The lower S E still have the F.D. gene, but it has been diluted somewhat. You don't get the message across to North Queenslanders by being wishy washy, or new age , north of the tropic of Capricorn you get real, or go home.

Not sure if I missed it but is there data anywhere on deaths/illness/etc to go with this? At some stage we all know that the virus will become endemic within the community and that's inevitable - we will have to learn to live with it, so infection numbers will go up when this happens - I would like to see more data around how the vaccinated population in general is coping with this - does it kill more or less than the Flu once the majority of the population is vaxxed, etc? How are the Hospitals and ICU's coping etc? Can a vaxxed population live with this in the community?

Just putting a number on infections only doesn't tell the story that needs to be told IMO. Data must be starting to become available on this. In England all my rellies are back out and about at the Pubs, etc doing what they do. Some of them have had it some haven’t - all ok now despite the rising infection levels? Will it remain that way? No idea, but that’s what we need to know if we are even going to get out of this.
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
