A new taskforce has been set up to investigate the false information that was provided to contact tracers.
Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the taskforce was made up of 20 detectives and analysts.
It will report twice daily to taskforce leader Peter Harvey.
Assistant Commissioner Harvey said at least one person had not told the truth and it would look at what, if any, legislation had been breached.
"I'm approaching this whole thing with an open mind," he said.
Assistant Commissioner Harvey said no stone would be left unturned and they would focus on any potential criminal activity.
"My obligation is totally different to being caught up in the emotion," he said.
"The importance of this is not lost on SA Police. If, in the end, there are (any charges possible) there will be and if there aren't there won't be.
"It may well be that there isn't any criminal offence.
Commissioner Stevens said he was satisfied the contact tracing team was not told the truth in the first instance.
"I'm sure the individual is reflecting on the statements they made," Mr Stevens said.
He said his initial legal advice was that, while people were obligated to provide information at a contact tracer’s request, there was no penalty for a lie.
“My understanding is they can’t be arrested or charged, but my team will look at any mechanism whatsoever,” he said.

I suspect the COVID pizza guy holding down 3 jobs is doing at least one of them cash in hand.

Would explain being reluctant to admit he worked there as well.

Probably also an Uber driver in his spare time which would then put all of SA back into lockdown......

The SA authorities appear to have been a little .... credulous. Instead of asking how someone would be showing symptoms a day after he claimed to have been infected {Edit: by holding a pizza box ...] they concluded that it was a new strain that was super infectious. There were commentators in other States that suggested that it was more likely that they got the timing wrong.

I've seen nothing that confirms it was drug outlet but a good story though. SAPOL will get to the bottom of this business though, don't you worry about that..

FWIW, we were good friends of AC Harvey's late Parents, his Dad being a Det.Supt. many years ago & we recall son Peter being a Police Cadet, but oh dear, was it really all that long ago?

'er indoors recalls Dad Kevin standing over me & demonstrating how a certain Barossa Valley wife murder was done using my shoulder to demonstrate the Rifle position. The next I saw of Peter, he was a senior Copper investigating the Murder deaths of two young women at Quorn in the North of SA in about 2012.


The culprit was endeavouring to bury one of them in the local cemetery when he was spotted by the 2nd woman on her way home so he did her in as well, probably with an axe. The cops had him the next day bang to rights.




The perpetrator is in Yatala Labour Prison doing life as I recall.
