COVID vaccine. We must be on our toes.

SARS-CoV-2 will continue to mutate and vaccine makers will need to be “nimble” in responding to highly-infectious variants of the virus, US President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser has warned.
Dr Anthony Fauci, in a White House briefing, said the emergence of a treatment-resistant variant in South Africa – one that is also less responsive to all vaccines developed so far – is “a wake-up call.”
The South African variant, known the B.1.351 strain, can reportedly evade antibodies provided by coronavirus treatments and is proving to be less effective against available vaccines.
While Dr Fauci said vaccine makers will have to be “nimble to be able to adjust readily” to tweaking the vaccines already going into peoples’ arms.

COVID vaccine: More coronavirus strains inevitable, Dr Fauci says (thenewdaily.com.au)

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

At least the guy has been using the SafeWA app and they have a decent record of where he's been.

We were out at a cafe (getting prepared to leave) when the announcement was made. On the 15 minute drive home we noticed all the shopping centre carparks full, and queues of cars waiting to get in. That was within 20 minutes of the announcement. Well done WA. I'd expect the toilet paper to be gone by the morning.
Our car was packed ready to take our kids back to boarding school in Perth. Ok well, they get an extra week at home. One is in year 12 this year... I have urgent surgery booked in Perth this week. We'll know tomorrow if it's going to happen...

I guess it could work for him or against him at the forthcoming election. There is no 3rd choice.

Wife just got back from Dianella Plaza after the routine Sunday arvo shop and reported plenty of stock across the board and no sign of panic buying at the local Coles. So pockets of sanity still exist.

Bloody saddened to read the news this morning that Captain Sir Tom Moore (Captain Tom Moore - 104 year old Chart Topper- Bravo Zulu Sir) is in hospital with the C-19 virus. Apparently he's had pneumonia and last week he was tested and found positive for Covid-19. He has been at home until yesterday and was transferred to hospital with breathing issues.

Seems the payback has commenced with VIC and NSW immediately and without warning establishing border controls with WA and back dating when the changes come into effect.

Was in Perth last week (in self-isolation at my own property as I came from Victoria) before returning to Melbourne on Friday and then travelling onto Newcastle this week for work.

As a result I am now locked out from returning to Victoria for at least 14 days. Plus I am required to self-isolate again in NSW until the end of this week.

All because of 1 local case........

Probably because of population and travel patterns, the amount of people from Peel and SW (or people from the SW going to Mandurah etc) who are likely to have been to Perth during the few days the bloke was unaware of his situation. If it came down into Peel or SW it would be another 300,000 people at risk.
