Perhaps read the context I posted in. Either is a huge risk to susceptible members of the community.

Walk into an aged care facility with Influenza and you could potentially kill off half the population.

Impacts over 5 million persons and up to 650,000 deaths a year. Swine flu alone killed 575,000 people.

There’s every possibility this will become annual and require regular vaccinations.

So let’s not play down all the other ‘accepted’ viral killers out there either.

The death rate for the swine flu was about 0.2%, double that of the normal flu but still 10 to 20 times less than COVID-19 - so that 575,000 people killed by swine flu would’ve been 5.75m to 11 million people killed by COVID-19. That’s the difference. And it was when governments did those calculations that they stopped talking about letting it run and aiming for herd immunity.

Oh, and coronavirus is significantly more infectious than swine flu so it spreads way quicker. And unlike SARS you’re infectious even when you don’t have symptoms.

How is it possible that people do not understand these facts?

They listen to and watch (and believe) Newscorp services only. And don't read anything.

Or possibly just that they don't want to believe unpleasant facts.

It’s nothing to do with not understanding the facts.

Nor is it denying the veracity of SARS-CoV-2. And it’s potential to cause major damage.

As a society we’ve controlled it well with distancing and lock downs, that’s a given. We just shouldn’t take any of the others lightly. The same actions keeping us safe now - especially social hygiene- should be taken seriously more often.

You all seem to forget from my other posts that I’m part of a lead team controlling this threat to our business operations. I am in regular contact with government health leaders as we manage this.

I’m well aware of the potential, as well as the statistics surrounding it. And know people who have had the virus in other parts of this country, as well as a Cousin in England who is a Nurse and dealing with it on a serious level daily.

As for listening to media outlets - you’ve got to be kidding yourself! I haven’t watched / listened to a FTA broadcast in years. I read the government / medical briefings as we receive them.

What I won’t do is discount other annual viral outbreaks which everyone is very casual about because “they kill a statistically lower percentage” as nowhere near as important or risky. Flu season is predicted to be much less hazardous this year as a result of distancing and increased hygiene practices.

As for Herd immunity. That’s essentially at this point in time ,all we have developing - flattening the curve doesn’t eradicate this virus - it keeps it below a level where we have sufficient resources to treat it. The predicted numbers of individuals who have contracted the virus and shown no symptoms is a constant topic of discussion. Until a vaccine is available the only given way to avoid it is isolation as we all know.

As the virus evolves, and our knowledge of it increases we will make inroads.

In the meantime - be safe - utilise technology to maintain your social circles, work on those LRs and houses etc.

And stop speculating as to people’s level of involvement in dealing with the virus - you may just be surprised!

That's the ying or the good.

Some people are not happy for many reasons yet most are trying not to hurt other or themselves.

Mean while Multiple US protests for people 'sick and tired' of virus lockdown

I wonder how the protestors think the deaths and infection rates are going to reduce when they are massing together

At least one person in this picture thought to wear a mask. Not the right type of course sadly. A song Say and little prayer for me popped into my head when reading this about some Americans.

You can’t fix stupid - even with duct tape.

(But it can muffle the noise)
