Queensland gets serious about keeping COVID out. Somehow I think it will be a losing battle, but they have my support for trying. And I must say, if the boot was on the other foot, I would understand.

One Sydney man found out on Wednesday how serious Queensland is about border crossings after he was fined $4003 for carrying a fake ID and lying about needing to enter for essential medical treatment.
The 43-year-old was travelling from NSW on a bus that was stopped by police at a border checkpoint.

All returning Sth Aussies must have a COVID test at the border.

A hard border closure with Victoria was imposed at midnight on Wednesday, preventing anyone other than South Australian residents and essential travellers from entering.
On Thursday, SA Premier Steven Marshall said all travellers from Victoria would be required to self-isolate for 14 days, submit for a coronavirus test and another one 12 days later.

Tasmania extends their State of Emergency.

Tasmania has closed its borders to Victoria unless people have a special letter of exemption.
The island is planning to reopen to mainland Australia on July 24, but Mr Gutwein announced on Wednesday that will not include Victoria.

    Health workers infected in Victoria.

In another concerning development, six of the new cases are linked to an outbreak at Al-Taqwa College at Truganina, in Melbourne’s outer west.
It has become the state’s biggest cluster, totalling 113 people.
The first case at the school was identified on June 27, with more than 2000 students and hundreds of staff sent into quarantine.

A visit to Melbourne gave Albury trio the virus.

Earlier, there were warnings that NSW might be approaching a “magic number” of infections that could become a tipping point.
Mary-Louise McLaws, an epidemiologist and World Health Organisation adviser, said active cases could quickly reach a point where authorities were so overwhelmed they could no longer do effective contact tracing.
“If it gets to about 100 cases across two incubation periods – about 14 days each – in very quick succession it doubles and then after that, it can double and triple each period,” she said.

Spare a thought for the Americans. Their situation is beginning to look hopeless.
Just as concerning is the situation in America’s hospitals. Across the South and West, a deluge of patients is forcing hospitals to convert beds into intensive care units. Doctors and health officials have said they were able to moderately control the virus because hospitals had enough personal protective equipment and the antiviral drug remdesivir. But now, many hospitals are reporting that they are running low on the drug, and the country as a whole is facing a dire shortage of protective gear and testing supplies.

Deborah Burger, co-president of National Nurses United, the country’s largest organization of registered nurses, said nurses were being forced to reuse protective gear in a way that has not been tested for safety.

“It’s almost five months into a pandemic in the richest country in the world and we’re putting people’s lives at risk because we don’t have enough P.P.E.,” she said.

What’s behind the surge: The current spike in cases is being driven by states that were among the first to reopen their economies, a Times analysis found, decisions that epidemiologists warned could lead to a wave of infections.

And now, some positive news. For the first time in 137 days.

Some positive news. A hospital once at the center of the Italian outbreak hit a milestone: a day without a Covid-19 patient in the I.C.U.

There seem to be conflicting statements around about if all Victorians are banned from Qld or only those who have been in Victoria in the last 14 days.
Lots of Victorians have been camped out in Western NSW waiting for July 10.
Statements have been made that it's a blanket ban on all Victorians.
However, I have also seen claims that when Victorians apply for a pass the question only asks if you have been in Victoria in the past 14 days.
Haven't done it myself, of course. I guess time will tell.
