I've posted a few times about the quiet anger in Victoria about the way NSW and Qld have treated us: this is a pretty explicit statement of it:

Coronavirus pandemic: I don'''t want to holiday next year in Queensland and NSW

I don't doubt that the Boomer grey nomads will continue to travel to Qld after the borders re-open, but I'd suspect that after that cohort passes away Qld in particular, and NSW to some extent, can expect to see very few Victorian tourists.

like i said, they are / have been driving around in circles...

heaps of stories from people that tried hanging around the border areas but moved north because the places were packed

i spoke to more than a few and actually helped a couple of them with info i had garnered..

they were in nearly all the caravan parks i stopped at...

lots of news articles from places like port douglas, cairns and those sorts of places with stories in local news papers / local news shows of caravan parks etc full and even enforcing quotas so locals got a go...

but it's nearly all over now....

hopefully you mexicans can clean your acts up before you head up here....

Personally the less tourist around the better
I am quite enjoying the quiet beaches, uncrowded camp spots, uncluttered roads and the absence of back packer cat craps at our parking bays.

You'd better hope that I'm not right:

New data shows tourism is a driving force of Queensland economy

“Our regional areas rely heavily on tourism, contributing eight per cent of total Gross Regional Product and employing 105,700 people – that’s one in nine jobs,” Ms Jones said.

“In some regions like Cairns and the Whitsundays, this goes up to one in five jobs and one in three jobs, representing around a quarter of the Whitsundays economy.”

You won't be. A person may be smart, but people (as a collective) are dumb and have short memories. By the time the "average Melburnian" is actually allowed to travel more than 25KM they'll have completely forgotten and be so glad to get away for a break they'll go anywhere that's not home (except WA, because politics).

I thought the other States being big meanies and poking fun at Victoria was pretty unwarranted until they dug up a bit patch of turf and trucked it to Queensland.

Edit : I realise that looks like I'm calling Victorians dumb. That's not what was intended. It is/was a "massaged" quote from "Men in Black".

This may come as a surprise, but reports that the Qld economy is going backwards are not really true. Small business is doing well, big business such as Qantas not so good. Victorians will be welcome if they wish to come, but if not, no problem. It's no big deal if Victorians don't want to come here, we can survive without you. But would be happy to welcome you.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
