The mortality rate is higher for older people, but there are deaths at all ages, and the mortality rate for 25-45 is probably balanced by the fact that older people are far more careful, so the case rate is highest for this age group, more than making up for a higher survival rate.

Yes, very much higher for older unfit males, with T2 Diabetes / Insulin Resistance and heart and/or chronic kidney disease... then add Type A blood - group and maybe terror of being tanned (Vitamin Sun deficient) and things ain't looking rosy if you were on the Diamond Princess Cruise Dish - sorry, 'ship'
from memory, the demographic of PAX "favoured" the high risk end, yet the mortality rate was ?
Cruise ship outbreak helps pin down how deadly the new coronavirus is | Science News
As of February 20, tests of most of the 3,711 people aboard the DiamondPrincess confirmed that 634, or 17 percent, had the virus; 328 of them did not have symptoms at the time of diagnosis. Of those with symptoms, the fatality ratio was 1.9 percent, Russell and colleagues calculate. Of all infected, that ratio was 0.91 percent. Those 70 and older were most vulnerable, with an overall fatality ratio of about 7.3 percent.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking
A lot of them cant hear well,so they get very close to the person they are talking to.
My elderly mother does this as well.
It took us a very long time to convince her to keep away from people,a bit like teaching an old dog new tricks
But she still does it at times due to habit![]()
Having worked on the trading floor of multiple supermarkets right through the pandemic that is the observation of all staff, managers and support services.
The abuse young, often female staff copped from the oldies was terrible.
Entitled, unaware, belligerent and arrogant.
Not all, by a long shot, but far, far more than younger customers.
Barista's and hospitality staff say the same about a lot of their elderly female customers, rude with a massive sense of entitlement
On the other hand virtually all the old people I know are rarely seen in any sort of public situation - either getting goods delivered or getting someone else to do the shopping, and certainly would not go anywhere near a barista in the current situation.
Neither my experience nor that of the accounts above tell the relevant story though. What does tell the story is the age distribution of those infected, and it shows that the vast majority of infections currently (not that there are any in Australia at the moment, so these are overseas figures) are in the 25-45 range, simply because they are more exposed.
