    • Frontline health and quarantine workers, as well as those in aged care, will begin to receive the vaccine next Monday
    • The Government expects 60,000 doses to be rolled out by the end of the month

People will begin receiving the vaccine from Monday, February 22, with more than 142,000 doses arriving in Sydney just after midday today

Heard on ABC Radio this a.m. that even after it arrives, there will be a delay while it is tested to Oz Standards.

    I assume by CSL ????

Me? I'd prefer to wait for the OZ CSL Manufactured vaccine. Have had faith in in their Vaccines all these years, why stop now?

EDIT. Discussed this further with you know who indoors, & she pointed out that some if not all the various Vaccines I referred to above could have been supplied by Overseas Suppliers anyway & just packaged by CSL. They get it in rusty olde 44s & dispense it to Jab Bottles. That may well be the case sez me, but I still I would believe it had been Ok'd by CSL rust or no rust.

Bloody Devil's Advocates! Jeezuz, one has to put their faith into someone after all.

Then again, one could trip arse over head at, or when driving to or from the GPs Rooms & finish one's life in a Quadriplegic ward.

Life is a Gamble each day when you get out of bed until you go back to bed, & in bed for some lucky ones here.

I currently have no faith in any of these vaccines. They have been produced far too quickly and the "testing" has (to me) not been thorough or well documented enough to be conclusive. Even FDA have only issued "emergency use". We are still seeing deaths and allergic reactions around the world. Has the TGA really done it's own home work or are they relying too heavily on overseas data?

Nope sorry, you can keep it, at least until one has proven itself.

You have to weigh up the risk of reaction to the vaccine against the outcome and possibility of contracting the virus.
For most people the odds are in favour of the vaccine.

As you know Ian I work in retail and our store has not closed or reduced hours during this whole affair, in fact we extended our hours for our peak trading period leading upto and during christmas. Yes we have "covid safe procedures" but the great unwashed continue to come and ignore social/physical distancing poking at their phones saying "have you got one of these" as they push it towards your face. Money, perhaps the most prolific of bacteria transfer mediums, continues to change hands. At times I have used so much hand sanitiser that when I pee it cleaned the toilet. If I was going to get this thing I'd probably already have it or I may of had it and don't even know. At almost 60 I think the risks are about 50/50 given what has gone on around the world with and without vaccines.

Glad you have donned it - I hope it’s buttoned up tight...

There are always reaction to any vaccines but does that mean we shouldn’t use them? If we didn’t as a whole then we’d still have Polio, Tetanus, Hep A, Hep B, Rubella, Measles, Whooping cough - the list goes on. We as a whole know how to make and administer vaccines - the worlds been doing it for ages and 30 years ago there would have been none of this sort of talk, just the fantastic job science has done for us yet again. But with the WWW here we all are discussing it ad nauseam and searching on line for confirmation bias we need to validate our thoughts on the idea.

You know your flame suit you’ve just donned was invented by scientists too - I’m sure it will work, but for my 2 cents, anti vaxers are one of the biggest threats to allowing old diseases back in - like Whooping cough, and those protesting the most about the right not to get a vaccine are the ones that are inadvertently killing people with their selfishness without thinking about the ramifications for others.

Man up and take the damn vaccine - I’ve had a gutfull of this sort of BS that threatens others by those that only think of themselves.

Rant over, you can grab a hose now and cool off.

    Wow flame suits work.

I am so far from an anti-vaxer it is not funny. I have been vaccinated for typhoid, japanese encephalitis, Hep B, MMR, ADT, Polio just to name a few. Most recently I was re-vaxed for Whooping cough after the birth of my grandson so that I could see the little fella.

No I'm not against vaccines at all. Just this one and just until it proves it self. The vaccines you mentioned and those above took many years (some dedades) of research, development and testing to get to where they were deemed safe and effective. Most of the popular vaccinations have little to no side effects. The vaccines for this virus so far have not proven to be particularly safe nor effective. Yet. When they do I'll roll up my sleeve and get jabbed. My life currently revolves around work (where I'm more likely to get infected) and home, so the chances of me killing someone are slim to none. My chances of getting infected by someone else are much higher. A chance I'm willing to take. For now.

As Ray has said, he's not an anti-vaxer. I don't agree with him on this issue, but respect and understand his decision.
These vaccines have been developed in record time and due to the urgency tests have been fast tracked, with long term effects uncertain.
We all perceive risk differently, some see more risk with the vaccine.

When we got the Polio Vaccine, what was our primary expectation ?- (Hint: That we did not or would not 'get' polio. ?)

When we got the measles, or the mumps or Spon Plague Vaccine, - what was our expectation? Yep, NOT 'getting' the disease.

Perhaps it is worth pointing out that by the time Australia starts vaccinations next week, there will have been many millions vaccinated worldwide. The UK announced yesterday that they have vaccinated 15 million, and there are certainly more vaccinated using the same vaccines in the EU and USA. So there have already been more already vaccinated than is typically the case when a new vaccine starts use here.

Perhaps worth pointing out that as far as I know, Australia is the only country that is delaying starting vacccination until approval of the vaccine is given using normal procedures. All other countries I believe started administering the vaccines with emergency approval.

Of course, the reason we can do that is that we have succeeded in almost eliminating the virus without vaccines - but these will be needed to ensure that it can be kept at bay, particularly if we wish to restore international travel.
