    Found this on the front page of The Australian and other quality newspapers of Oz.... - NOT. !

    Seems the Fins have come up with an interesting nasal spray,

    Finnish Biotech Secures U.S. Patent for Ivermectin-based Nasal Spray to Take on COVID-19 in Low-to-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs)

    And reported here too.... included 'cos the LH sidebar has some interesting 'rabbit-holes' to occupy curiosity...and yes, even a ref that The Donald dreams he'll be back in office by August.

    Some interesting thoughts on herd immunity in Australia, from people who should be qualified to know. And that doesn't include me, I hasten to add. Leading immunologist Peter Doherty says " we should be able to open up safely when we have 70% to 80% of the population vaccinated, and we have treatments". Treatments? not sure what that means. Dr Nick Coatsworth , former CMO and infectious disease specialist, said rates of 60% to 90% were needed for "COVID control within the community," but a rate to wipe out the virus within the community "may be unattainable. "

    Victoria has introduced a temporary Pfizer block, " due to ongoing vaccine supply issues." From Monday the only Vics. able to receive a Pfizer jab at vaccination hubs are those who already have their first dose, or essential workers and those with travel restrictions. They say they are restricted by having to hold on to enough doses to give people their second dose. This info is included in an article from the G7 meeting, which could be regarded as political, because it is not complimentary to our vaccine roll out, so I'll post that in CE.

    Found this from the German News , DW. Why experts say herd immunity is still out of reach.

    One Professor says " Herd immunity through vaccination is the preferred pathway. Herd immunity through natural infection will come at a colossal loss of human life and suffering." They agree that new variants push out the percentage required for herd immunity in communities. From DW;

    EDIT- the bottom line - we are not safe until everyone, everywhere, is safe. DW.

    The % vaccinated to achieve herd immunity seems to vary quite a bit depending on the effectiveness of the vaccine. The more effective the vaccine the lower the % vaccinated has to be. Herd immunity seems to be in a range of about 60-90% depending on effectiveness of the vaccine.

    There is some concern that the Chinese vaccines being given to third world countries have been deemed to be only about 45% effective. [ That is from the USA] One concern raised is that COVID outbreaks in those countries could give rise to new variants that become resistant to current vaccines. Then we are back where we started from. Until we get it right, we may always be playing catch up. Like it or not, the rich will have to look after the poor, until the entire World has herd immunity, it seems.

    ...or.... it could also be from someone who had it in hotel quarantine but has since recovered. So, not really something to get in a frenzy about.
