Get out of Jail Times 10 now? The new covid cases in my client list are going up by the hour today. Only two I knew about yesterday have been near us in the last 10 days.

Shut the doors and closed pathology until we get test results back. It is odd with some pathology patients seeming very angry I did that.

Sometimes, it can be fun. Not for them, though.

Tests all clear for all my staff, Doctors and I. Five more added to my known list this afternoon. Sort of expected with 150 odd constructions workers in Box Hill all moving about last week now all positive from just one building site. Bring forward a heap of the vaccinations booked oddly in November. I guess they thought being last was a good idea at the time?

New Covid infections in Victoria are 603 today, which I think is is our second or third highest ever.

[Edited - re numbers on building sites.]

    Delta is deadlier

"While the science has been settled for a while about Delta being more infectious than previous variants of concern, at the time a Doherty Institute-led team was commissioned to provide COVID modelling for national cabinet it was less clear whether it was also likely to cause more severe illness.

That debate appears at an end, with both the Doherty and the Burnet institutes adopting the findings of a Canadian study showing unvaccinated people infected with Delta are nearly twice as likely to end up in intensive care and one-and-a-half times more likely to die as people who caught the Alpha variant."

"The study found that people infected with Delta were twice as likely to end up in hospital, three times as likely to require intensive care and 2.32 times more likely to die from COVID than people infected with the original strain of the virus."

"The changed assumption about Delta, the COVID-19 strain driving the current outbreaks in NSW and Victoria, is already reflected in
Burnet Institute modelling released on Sunday by the Andrews government showing that, even with a cautious easing of lockdown, demand on hospital and intensive care beds could outstrip supply and up to 3000 people may die from the virus."

Except the tradies, builders and co are frequent fliers at takeaway, supermarkets, Country town, serves stations and other great places for spreading. Sharing NOT caring. Add they often have families like the rest of us. Contract tracers are now almost overwhelmed........ Not ring DHS and covid lines at all today was a joyI think the phone staff try hard but note a lot were well out of their depth on several important topics which should have been widely known. on about the tenth call yesterday I hit gold with a nurse who was the first person who knew what I think is basic information - Time frame backward from symptoms/covid confirmed date to make a visited business or person a Exposure risk. It is the symptom date plus the two prior days in Victoria at least. I assume else where as well.

The people not wanting vaccines are welcome to their choice. I dount they will help pay the hospital bills they could have avoided leaving for us taxpayers to fund

With 75%ish 1st and 2nd dose rapidly expanding the risk to most of us is hugely mitigated. The 5- 11 studies overseas are looking positive.

On a weird note I am now a guinea pig- A test of a combined Quadrivalent Flu vaccine and Covid vaccine by Novavax.

Happy to test it myself. Not sure if it is a booster plan or ... They only using fully vaccinated people for the test. 6 months of needles and blood test. Why do I say yes so often ?

I understood it was 400 of all current active cases are linked to construction - not of today’s cases.

Don’t see many construction sites listed as exposure sites.

Edit: ABC are stating the Victorian government said there were 337 active cases of COVID-19 spread across 154 building sites since early August.

Nine is reporting that of Victoria's 6000 active coronavirus cases, 403 are directly linked to 186 construction sites - 362 in Melbourne and 49 in regional Victoria.

These numbers sound very low to me. Not sure why the construction industry is being targeted given the levels of non-compliance in general across the entire population.

You should be paid to be a guinea pig, most trials do, of course money won't matter if your ears drop off, or whatever, as a side effect.
