[QUOTE=4bee;3125626][QUOTE=bob10;3125596]Of course it does. But going on the European experience, Omicron is going to infect many more than delta, and a percentage of those are going to hospital and a percentage of them are going to the ICU. It doesn't take an Einstein to work out without basic restrictions , such as masks, those percentages are going to be high. And health workers are not robots. exhaust your health workers,[ and indeed some of them will be infected] and you are in deep ****.
Sorry but my opinion is NSW has dropped the ball again. I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Perhaps we should turn to America , like we seem to always do. Vaccinations, boosters and masks. They are what is deemed necessary to live with Omicron in the USA. The rise of cases in New York prompted the NY Medical advisor to say, " We've never seen this before in NY City".

In Ohio, more than 1,000 National guardsmen were called in to assist medical facilities as the State faced staffing shortages in their hospitals.

In Nebraska, medical facilities were forced to ration treatment on non Covid patients as hospital beds grow scarce.

In the past month, 60,000 patients have been newly treated in hospitals , and there are 67,306 patients currently being treated nationally.

In South Africa, where Omicron was first discovered , there have been approx. 7,600 patients currently admitted to hospital one month after the new strain was found.

Erin Sanders , a biologist who has worked on Covid since the pandemic began, said " Omicron doubles in 2 days. Time is everything ".

We in Australia have had Omicron for a fraction of the time others have. What makes us think we can control it better than them, by removing all restrictions? It's Alice in Wonderland thinking.

Stupid is as stupid dose thread - Alas Covid related

93.8% plus Oz >16 year olds Americans on the other hand

This U.S. has passed another grim milestone in the COVID pandemic, 800,000 Americans dead in less than two years.
To put that into perspective, that is like having the same number of deaths as on 9/11, every day, seven days a week, for nine months straight. An average of 1,200 Americans are dying from COVID now every day.

With well-tested and effective vaccines available that reduce both infection and death, why is that?
Nearly a third of the nation remains unvaccinated.

That is a WOW how stupid in my books It will take a month for to enable a good coverage to for the 5-12 year olds. Ditto for the 3rd dose/boosters. The Yanks status really belongs in Stupid is as stupid dose thread

    US Cases- 50,706, 733.

    Deaths - 805,823

Joe Biden's chief medical advisor on Sunday contradicted the vice president, who had claimed that no one saw the Omicron variant coming.
'We did. We definitely saw variants coming,' said Dr Anthony Fauci, after being read out Kamala Harris's quote.
On Friday she told The Los Angeles Times: 'We didn't see Delta coming. I think most scientists did not — upon whose advice and direction we have relied — didn't see Delta coming.
'We didn't see Omicron coming. And that's the nature of what this, this awful virus has been, which as it turns out, has mutations and variants.'
Fauci said that Harris was mistaken - but he accepted that Omicron's potency had not been forecast.

Dr Anthony Fauci on Sunday contradicted Vice President Kamala Harris, who had claimed that the administration 'didn't see Omicron coming'

'What was not anticipated was the extent of the mutations and the amino acid substitutions in Omicron, that is really is unprecedented and came out of nowhere,' Fauci told CNN's Jake Tapper, on State of the Union.
'When you have a virus which has 50 mutations.
'To me that is really quite unprecedented so that is something you would not have anticipated.

The UK system depends on a large number of people who are temp/casual not permanent staff. They are making themselves unavailable for work. Can understand this as if full time and sick you are paid if temp/casual no support. So they are being very choosy in where and when will work. This means wards are not able to open adding to the reduction in staff due to permanent people who are off sick

So while the ICU and death numbers are small in comparison the pressure on the hospital system is different this time
Of course that idiot Boris with all his indecision's & U Turns does not help the country or it's people at all.

I did. His sister & 'er indoors were good friends & worked together when he first started out & we did visit now & then. I doubt he would remember me these days, me being a poor arse out of the pants kind of guy, & unemployed Fridgie, although he probably asked his sister "Who was that arse out of the pants dead beat ****er that we entertained today?"

Haven't seen either of them for years as times & people move on, get married, change jobs & locations etc.
