you are right there, though many also believe that accommodation businesses get a fair go. I don't care, it's their risk, but the big end of town are the major owners of hi - rise developments , mostly international investors. the facts are that 10 million tourists come here to holiday each year and all of the business owners want to tuck into the pie again. these business owners bleed heavily from tiny scratches claiming they never make a decent profit on the gold coast....poor bastards.....they're still here though.

For me Onslow is the "New" Broome now
Onslow? Thanks for the heads up. I've heard Broome has gone all yuppy. Used to love the place, we'd pull in there whilst doing fishery patrols off the west coast. We used that old pearler up on concrete in the park to have a bit of fun. We'd form teams of 2 and take turns to jump the fence , climb on board, climb up the rigging and touch the top of the mast. The coppers were good blokes, they watched us then gave us a lift back to the wharf. [ in the paddy wagon] Broome was the only place on that coast that had a decent air conditioning /fridge man. He earned more than a few beers off us. We also had a deal with one of the local butchers. We'd order bulk Kimberley meat, have it delivered by Blue Orchard Air to Darwin RAAF base, NOK would pick it up. AHHHH, they were the days.

May as well hijack it properly, being an old fisherman, what do you think of the Border Force burning the indon. fishing boats out on Rowley Shoals? I know you'd probably burn them all, but burning boats without first going to court amounts to piracy. At least we towed them in to Darwin, and burned them after the court case. We done it proper, gave the guilty bastards their day in court.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

The devil is always in the detail (or in this instance the lack of it). It'll take years to unto the damage done to the system due to chronic underfunding. The policy of "don't replace them when they leave" over the last 5 years has seen a severe deficit in experience on the ground, and the sudden "hey, not that you were understaffed, but you can now employ another 50% full time nurses" doesn't solve a problem when you can't get them and you have nobody left with the experience and time to train them.

Why do you think the border has stayed closed? They know if COVID gets in here people will die because the health system is stretched beyond capacity as it is. Pardon me if I don't go all fanboy on the "upcoming" budget, but there is years of work to try and remediate the damage done. A quick cash splash is good for headlines, but that's about as far as it goes.

Tell that to many WAs who want to spend Christmas with family elsewhere and cannot. Might not worry you as it does not worry me about not going to WA but it does worry many from WA who would like to be with family over Christmas.

I was in Onslow a while back when I was working on a job near there. Before I went there, it was described to me as "Boulder by the sea".
Turned out that this was a very apt description.
Haven't bothered going back there since.

Agree that Broome has been overrun with yuppies and druggies these days - not really interested in spending any time there either. But the Spinifex Pub at Derby hasn't changed in many years, and is always worth a visit. Not sure if Kingy (ex publican from Kalgoorlie) still has it or not - but he used to look after us well when I was working out on Cockatoo Island.

On other towns in the north west - Karratha is a ****hole, but Dampier is not bad and it's only a short drive. The best view you can get of Port Hedland is the one in the rear view mirror.

Sounds like it is not a newly discovered A$ 1.9 B just one that should have been paid yonks ago.

    Typical of most Govts.

It is with concern the moderation team are again discussing the number of posts with links to other sites, where the article is not being discussed, to warrant a claim of fair use.
This forum in general and this thread in particular, are not receptacles in which to dump links.
The administrative and moderation team will do whatever is required to protect the forum. If that needs to be infraction and consequent bans, that is what will happen.

You reckon Port is bad? You'd love South Hedland, Brian.

i think you'll find it's based on legal advice that a high court challenge would now succeed due to the vaccination rate..
