And of course we shouldn’t forget that for those with underlying medical conditions, the fear of COVID would be real.

    As was the Flu.

I have a couple of friends who are highly susceptible.

One has nearly died from what started are a simple contact with someone with Flu 4 years ago.

Unfortunately as health fails and complications arise it will always present a risk.

    I wish everyone safe regardless.

The turn around will come and with high vaccinations, and a high % who have had COVID, we will probably be even closer to achieving herd immunity than just relying on vaccinations only.

The deaths being reported are sad, but how many of these are COVID complicated versus COVID caused? All the cases of a COVID that I know of from vaccinated work colleagues and their families are mild and no different to when flu season used to arrive when living in regional towns. Vaccinations are making a big difference to the consequence and we no longer have to live in fear or be wrapped in cotton wool.

There is probably more anxiety (at least here in Melbourne) about going back into lockdown than there is of getting COVID. And we can always go to QLD now for winter. Covid Mk ll

But it’s not a free for all - people are being cautious, limiting social contact, and wearing masks as appropriate. With freedom comes choice, and people are choosing the level of risk they are comfortable with - as it should be.

As a proud Sandgroper who can’t get back home to see family at present, I am actually happy being here in Melbourne as I have overseas trips back on the agenda for work.

After almost 2 years I can not wait to start travelling overseas again.

Having spent the first 6 months of 2020 in the WA health system, the last 6 months of 2020 in the Victorian health system (sent over due to under-resourcing in the WA health system) and then the first 6 months of last year back in the WA health system, I'd have to disagree with that also. Their staffing levels and training made ours look quite inferior.

We were woefully under-prepared in March 2020 and it has actually deteriorated since then.

I'm a proud Western Australian, but I'm also dispassionate, analytical and realistic. I call it "as I see it" rather than "as I see it on the news".

I'm as distressed with what I see on the East Coast as anyone, and yeah it's nice to be all wrapped in our nice warm blankie here in WA, but it's already here, it's spreading and short of another lockdown we're headed for what has happened on the East Coast albeit at a slower rate due to our population density (although faster than it should be due to our “dense” population). The difference is the East Coast have spent effort in preparing and learning to manage (more by necessity than design) and over here we've spent 2 years going "la la la la I'm all nice and safe" whilst completely ignoring the health system until last year when the death of a child attributed to gross under-resourcing finally caused an uproar that could no longer be ignored.

As pointed out by a certain member here a million times, there is a budget promise to spend big on health, but it's a promise and its future. Until the health system is finally pushed into chaos the general public are mostly unaware it's in massive crisis. As long as the border stays closed and WA keeps a lid on the infections, that's possible. As soon as it gets here "big time" then it'll become pretty obvious quite quickly.

I am finding it hard to fathom why so many people here are getting so bitter and twisted over WA Not opening its borders and letting it rip like the other States have done.

Do some feel a sense of outrage because West Australians are not getting sick and dying at the moment at the same rate the people in the other States are?
Is it bothering some that in WA the workforce isn't getting decimated due to COV19 infections?
Is it such a crime that the WA economy isn't going down the toilet because of COV19?
Or is it that some people simply have nothing better to whinge about?

    Unbloodybeliveable.

Not getting bent out of shape here. Just seems unnecessary and I question the wisdom of it. I feel for the WA people adversely effected by the ongoing lockdown but it doesn't effect me.

    Cheers

    twisted to suit

any notion that covid is in some way less of an evil than the flu is an utter nonsence

when was the last time 700+ people died in three weeks in nsw of the flu?
