Just a note about the LROCV. I've been a member for three years now. It's a fine club and worth joining for the contacts, trips and events.

However, like any club new members can take a little while to mix in. This is just the way all clubs are, it's not an LROCV-specific thing. When I join a club for the first time I don't let first impressions count, I give them a fair go. That includes not getting annoyed if my membership pack doesn't arrive and other admin glitches happen, because that's what clubs are like.

RMP I dont think anything that has been posyed in this thread has been unreasonable.

If people treat me like they dont want me there I dont go there and if people dont do what they say they will do and then cant be contacted then it is working against everything that a club is meant to be there for and negative feedback should be expected not dismissed or ignored and definatly this sort of actions buy your members should not be ignored.

If you like your club and think that this is unfair then bring it up at one of your meetings, ask the insisor if you can print it out for club use as this seems to have become pricless feed back that most clubs would love to get their hands on (if they were smart).

If you combat these issues and it seems to be a minority group which is causing the problems then your club will be great.

At the moment it is only great to people that have been accepted into a click within the club.

This is a good thing that you have got feed back use it to your advantage.

I never said the comments were incorrect, or unreasonable. I consider them entirely fair. And I will pass this on to the club president, who I know will be mortified.

My point was that many clubs are poor at accepting new members, and I'd advise everyone, for any club they join, to persevere for a bit. Everyone has their own definition of unacceptable behaviour, and I'm not about to argue that point.

I am also very sorry the LROCV seems to have missed out on members. I believe clubs have a lot to offer people, and the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. But clubs aren't for everyone, even if I think everyone should at least give them a go. In my experience, the more you put in, the more you get out.

Bit hard to join in if the other members dont accept your there.

A club isn't a club without members and the way LROCV goes about getting members they are doing them selves an injustice and will find it hard in years to come if they dont deal with it now.

Acceptable behaviour is based around the do un to others theory, Im sure you wouldn't like to be ignored when you first join a club or group and im not saying that thats what you do personally but there are members in your club that do.

    McRover,

The information from here has already been discussed at length both by the show committee and members of the main committee.

You are right that a club needs to react to negative feedback - and that is exactly what is happening.

Unfortunately sometimes in these forums - only one side of an event is represented... so I'd suggest that while reading this thread you keep in mind that some "facts".. may be what someone thought happened rather than a true fact.

Anyway, as I believe Profpinz raised earlier - the club catering tent ( where many club members gathered to recover from the heat) - was located in a high profile area (as it has been for many years) - we suspect that some potential new members wandered in there... rather than the area we specifically set up to help inform and welcome potential new people..Located at the front of the hill under the big Yellow Land Rover tent
Next year - the club catering will be elsewhere - to avoid any more of these problems.

Also Grumpybastard and I have been communicating off line - to try and make up for his unfortunate experience..

I have only been an LROCV member for 2 years... so I am not one of those who have been around for years and years - I found most in the club very approachable and I do believe you get out of a club what you put in.... a bit like life I guess.

That said clubs are not for everybody - I suggest anyone who does want to join a club - come along to a meeting or two.. meet some members and investigate the club before joining.

Anyway - I just wanted to let you know people are listening and acting on much of this feedback.

We all have a common love of Landrovers - it was sad to see this thread degenerate into a mud slinging match... I suspect I didn't help with my first few posts. I was just rather tired...

See you out on the tracks one day...

You're right Ray,... I wasn't there - so I don't know what actually happened (were you?).

That's why we're changing the locations - to avoid it happening again...

even put a sign out the front of the tent saying members rest area only

then that way they wouldn't need to be rude to people not knowing they were in the wrong area ........Heaven forbid

after all these years they are still struggling to get it right...

    thanks mate

but i really find this hard to believe that club members are so rude to a simple mistake of tents

and the guy's on here blaming the heat and the wrong tent

now i think it was you who approached me in the street out of the blue ??
asking a smartbottom question about putting fires out

now that was a hot day
and ended up chatting for 30mins or so

that wasn't even a show driven drive for new members either
