    It is.

One problem I have is that sometimes I don't get around to using something straight away. By the time I do and I find it's faulty, it's also out of warranty.

    Gaaahh!

We just got new credit cards (Amex and MC). My wife's are linked to my account.

We activated them at the same time. We also sorted out the new PINs at the bank yesterday.

    Hers work.

Yesterday, I went to buy fuel with my new Amex Card. Declined. It's a good thing I still had another card.

Today I had a phone call about a direct debit I'd changed to the new MC. Declined.

Bugger. I've just been through the hassle of advising all and sundry of the change in card no. for direct debits.

Well, the cards have been fixed.

    Now for today's story!

I ordered some EAS repair parts and some desiccant from Rover Renovations in the USA. It arrived today.

Unfortunately, Customs sliced open the sealed foil pack of desiccant (for the air dryer) - it must have shown up in their X-raying of incoming packets.

That wouldn't have been too bad - if they had resealed the packet. But, no, they didn't so the desiccant spilled throughout the packet.

It's been raining today so the packet got soaked. The desiccant absorbed the water.

I don't know if it is ruined or if it can be recovered by drying it in an oven.

Why me? What did I do to deserve this?

I've been pretty lucky of late. Nothing has failed.

Is it because I haven't bought anything?

Nothing has failed? Well, not really true.

I had Foxtel installed a few months back - two receivers, one in the lounge and one in the master bedroom. I also use a 5.8GHz AV link to deliver the programmes from the lounge into the family room.

Firstly, the IQ box in the lounge. The remote control won't work unless one is standing right in front of the box. Well, that's the way it was until we found our daughter's cat sleeping on top of the warm IQ. So we stood the IQ on its end to stop that. Then we found the remote control will work from anywhere in the room. Hmm. Lay the IQ down - the remote doesn't work. Stand it up - the remote works. I suppose I had better call Foxtel soon.

Second. The AV link was a bit iffy at times. I tried playing around with it and discovered the SCART cable provided by Foxtel has a faulty video plug (the yellow RCA end). Push the tip in and it works. It must be broken inside the plug.

Third. I thought I'd check the AV link using the SCART cable from the bedroom Foxtel receiver. I carefully removed the cable, took it to the lounge room and connected the IQ box to the AV sender. Nothing. What?

Back to the bedroom Foxtel receiver and the TV. Nothing. Gahhh! I opened the SCART connector up and found the video line earth lead was broken and the video line hadn't been properly crimped to the terminal so it was intermittent. I fixed them so now the bedroom link is working again but the AV link is still dead. Do I fit a new plug or get Foxtel to replace the cable?

When I looked at the connections, I found the termination of the wiring to the SCART terminals is very shoddily done (I'm an electronics tech).

Oh, that's right. I forgot the surgeon had to go back in to do some warranty work.
