weather station can play up if the wireless link is not providing a goo enough link. Make sure you have line of sight. I had to move mine from one side of the yard to another to ensure good link.

When we had Foxtel installed some months back, we found the remote wouldn't work unless we put it right near the optical receiver window.

Then our daughter went on holidays and dropped her cats off for us to look after. One cat like laying on the Foxtel box as it was nice and warm. The trouble is, he blocked the ventilation holes.

So we stood the box on its end. We suddenly found the remote worked properly. Hmm, lay box down - remote no worky. Stand box up - remote worky. We left it standing which it still is.

Hmm. I have the sender under the side door entry eave and the receiver is in the rear bedroom (computer room). Not line of sight and with a few walls in the way.

After buying the HDTV and getting Foxtel, I thought the sound is quite poor so I set up a 5.1 home theatre system. I had my Wharfedales from my stereo and my son had some JBL centre and side speakers as well as a Sony powered sub-woofer that weren't being used. I even went and bought a new BluRay DVD player.

The sound was much improved over the crappy TV speakers but it was disappointing that Free To Air HDTV doesn't always have Dolby 5.1 sound - and Foxtel doesn't either even though the decoder boxes have digital audio connections. Maybe Foxtel HD to which we have just upgraded will have good sound.

    Why can't I check?

Well, the bloody Sony AV receiver/amp that does the audio decoding and audio/video switching has decided that it's only going to output the sub-woofer sounds. This happened about a week ago but I'd forgotten to add it to the list.

It could be worse, I could have set it up for the 7.1 sound. Actually, I was about to do that whilst Elisabeth was in NZ. She's against having more speakers in the lounge but I have these tall Wharfedale speakers in the garage (they used to belong to my son). I could use those at the front and my Wharfedale bookshelf speakers at the rear of the room.....

They haven't been used for most of that time. I used them when I bought them in Norfolk Island but, after moving back to Oz in '93, the stereo wasn't connected up until my son had a bike accident about 5 years ago (T-boned by a car) and was laid up at home. After he left, they weren't used again until recently. We don't listen to the radio nor the stereo so they just sat there.

We got a call from the Sanyo service agent today. Our new HDTV is beyond economical repair. We have to go there tomorrow to collect some paperwork to allow us to pick up a new TV from where bve bought this one.
