About 18 months ago we bought an automatic coffee machine. It's worked well enough making mediocre coffee but recently started playing up so we sent it in for repair under warranty - thankfully, it was a 2 year warranty.

We got a phone call today to tell us that it cannot be repaired so they are refunding our money.

About a week ago I bought some garden LED solar-charged battery-powered lights. I wanted to strip them down to make some fishpond lights with them. Turns out one was faulty but I can't find the receipt to exchange it. Thankfully, it was cheap.

A few months back, I bought a secondhand Pentax K-7 DSLR camera. I now find it intermittently puts a vertical green line through images. I've since found that the seller knew of this when selling it but didn't disclose it. He'd posted of it on the Pentax forum.

What's the problem in that ? - Sounds more like a WIN.... Anything that makes 'mediocre' coffee ought to be consigned to recycling/landfill.

It will be replaced with another mediocre coffee maker. The one that failed had a good review on Coffeesnobs.

That's just plain rude and not something I could knowingly do.

I'm the same. As a result, I really can't sell the camera. I'll ask CR Kennedy for a quote to repair but I suspect it may be uneconomical and may be better to just keep the camera as a backup and buy a new K-5. At least the K-5 and K-7 are identical in terms of body. The K-5 is better for low light.

I did - see the link. I can't prove it's the same camera but with the same username and the same model camera with the same problem..............

Just an update. CR Kennedy did a repair for free. Thanks very much, CRK!

I haven't had the problem recur.

A couple of years ago we bought a new fridge for the laundry. It failed twice in warranty and was repaired. It has failed again (not cooling below 19 deg C in the main part of the fridge but seems OK in the freezer). It's 6 months out of warranty but the warranty company, won't do anything about it:

    "It's out of warranty".

    "But it's failed again."

    "It's out of warranty".

The retailer just refers us to the warranty agent.

The service charges make it uneconomical to have it fixed.

Ron, was the same fault than before?
If yes then I guess that the work done have to have some warranty.
That fridge or model appears to be very unreliable, perhaps doing a search you will find that the model was a lemon and you can take the case further.
I have similar problem with a Samsung side by side fridge and the problem was the model which was full of faults.
I got the money back trough the shop and bought a different brand which have been good for the last 5 years.
Ha a few cups with double caffeine and make esquires about it.

He's failed already. We had to take him to the vet this morning - he's got kennel cough so our yard is now quarantined for 10 days.

We got home, dropped him off, and went for coffee.

When we got back, there seemed to be a lot of water in the carport and a very wet dog. He's found the fishpond is an excellent swimming hole and the plants in there weren't needed, either.
Well, we got a call from Guide Dogs today. They've had Ivor for the past week and have decided that they won't be keeping him as a stud dog. They'll take some semen from him next week, then neuter him.

It seems he is the best dog they've had for a long time and they will be training him to be a guide dog.

A good thing, too! He was absolutely hopeless as a guard dog. He'd let anyone in, he'd go off with anyone, he was happy to sleep all day, he never barked. Actually, that's a fib. In all the time we've had him, I've heard him bark once and Elisabeth has never head him bark - neither have the neighbours.

We know why Guide Dogs have taken him. He was too good for us. We've had a string of pups who were bad, i.e., returned by previous puppy raisers because they were bad/naughty. GD knew we should never be allowed to have a good dog!

He will make someone a lovely guide dog/companion. We get him back for two weeks before he heads off for training. We've had one of his progeny and she was a lovely dog, laid back just like him.

    We'll miss him.
