The science of Climate change is an immensely difficult thing to predict. The reason why the predictions for climate change keep changing every few years is that climate scientists are getting better at their jobs. More information is gained and testing methods are refined which leads to a better understanding of what is actually happening or going to happen. It is so far from simply being able to say that the whole world is going to get hotter and drier because it is not. Western Europe could possibly be sent into an ice age if the ocean currents are affected by the melting of the Greenland ice sheet. This is one example of what may happen but it is very hard to test! In science you form an hypotheses and then test it, you try every thing within the limits to disprove it. If you can't then your hypothesis is probably correct. At this point in time with all the technology we have the climate scientists have shown that we MORE likely to be heading toward a human induced climate change than we are not. I hope they are wrong.
One thing you have to think of is facts. What fact was the science teacher relying on when he said that we were heading for another ice age? Was it just his/her opinion or was it based on good sound scientific fact?

Scientists also say that we are due for a magnetic pole reversal in 2012, something that is well associated with ice ages. The ice age will reabsorb carbon and the carbon levels will reduce again with the associated drop in temperatures and the expansion of ice caps.

So whos correct.... and what is more important to a political agenda.

That's the problem I was trying to get across in my last post on this topic. If the pollies and the (now) politicized public servants in charge of dishing out research funds say that you can't even question the data or prognosis there is never going to be real science conducted.

At the meeting I referred to previously the king hitters said it was a waste of time trying to model the effects of climate change on fish populations because it was all going to change so fast that modeling would be useless.

Hasn't stopped an army of scientists putting in grant apps to do just that. There is no objectivity happening, just snouts in troughs.

What was the old axiom........... the more things change, the more they stay the same?

Why are some of the same people who say we don't have enough data to draw a conclusion also criticising the fact that scientists are seeking funding to get more data?
