my apologies on the previous post saying that mal had died when in fact it was mike
personally by the sounds of it with the amount of rust and 'modifications' that it has, it should be restored to the way it was in the series and placed with its brother in the museum but be able to go on display at various places around the country to suitable organisations
    my 2 bobs worth
and as financially limited as i am i would be willing to donate to the preservation of this icon

Research in the time frame of the 11A

    Its worth an ask
Can any of you come forward with any Links, Movies (DVDs) ,Books (Other than off the beaten track and further of the beaten track) or any TV series of even older photos that involve this vehicle?

all that i have said on this topic is just my opinions
i apologise for stating how much they paid for it,should not have been said(i have learnt my lesson there)
im sorry to geoff i didnt realise that u were working so hard to achieve wat u were.
and when i said "lucky bastards" i meant lucky as getting a car so cheap with so much historical value
the only reason i started this thread was because of my passion for land rovers and specially this one my intentions were only for the car to get the best home/treatment
i hope that not to many people were hurt in this as i said its just my passion for land rovers
if anyone wants to talk to me feel free
also i am sorry to rangie and the forum for the trouble i have caused u

Actually it is the brother of the one at Birdwood. The Birdwood one is a Series I 107" Station Wagon, as pictured in previous posts.

I am told that the '63 SWB was wrecked at Dungog donkeys years ago and is lost. The wheels were still in the shed a few years ago...

This one is a '71 LWB Station Wagon.

Wink Its a long story from here

    OK you lot
The cat is likely out of the bag now; I have decided to retrieve this thing into captivity so its safe.
I know we all have mixed feelings on this but you have to believe me the museum cant take it ATM. I do care what you all say but its the truth as many hrs have already been spent on research and information on this one and we cant convince the museum to take it as is. No room no funds etc. So please give me a chance to save this Land Rover and not make it any harder for me

As most of you are aware this was the last Land Rover they had before the Jeeps.

It has only had one owner since the Leyland brothers so we are the second. I will be able to retain the number plates at my expense by storage or transferring them to another vehicle so we wont ever lose them.

If we keep this one as is, as found well that's fine but cant be registered and proudly display its original number plates. So the decision we have to make is repair the issues and make it very roadworthy and bring back its identity or let it die

I'm working on finding the original bonnet, longer shackles etc. The original outer front guards may be lost though This one also ran the 900X 16 for a short time.
The bar work and water tanks may be long gone as Mike and Mal removed them when it was sold. With a lot of care some of it may be refabricated to perfection.

I still have a lot of information yet to be documented.

    Fantastic news!

It is sad that the museum didn't have the means to care for it, but the vehicle requires much work and effort which they simply couldn't provide.

This is the perfect outcome for the vehicle - I am so glad it has gone to a good home and that it will preserved in it's historically significant state!

    Great news Tony
Wonder if the Leylands(Mal) still have the bits removed sitting in a shed??? Would be worth traking Mal down, you never know what he has to donate to the cause.Pictures, records, etc etc.Im sure he would be very interested in its future.
If you decide to display it as is in a museum and you own the plates surely "copies" are acceptaple.ie order new replacements one at a time as you lost one, originals can stay on it for display purposes, you put the real ones on a suitable drive.
When you are ready and you decide what you want to do with the old girl make sure you start a thread where we can all pledge our help.Labour, parts and $$$$.
    WELL DONE!!!

It's now very public so all must be above board. I'm going to contact the RTA to see if we have any exceptions.

    Thanks,
This will be the scary bit I know all will want to be a part of this and in many ways will be wile I remain a member here.

I cant expect any of you to contribute any $$$ but some spare parts and labour of love is welcome over a BBQ etc.

First job will be building some sort of a restoration shed to get all this sort of thing well away from my work place. Doesn't have to be flash so will be looking for second hand material from demolitions, storm damages and remains of old buildings on this property etc.
Now where are those boy scouts!
