I use the 7" one in the Defender. Use iGo and Ozi.
Mounted it using a Ram Mount.

Ram mounts are very good, and surprisingly not that expensive at Johnny Appleseed up here in Qld.

    Navigation to co-ordinates?

Can anyone tell me if these units can navigate to a set of co-ordinates (lat/long) or is that something that is dependant on the mapping software that is being used?

    cheers

The road navigation software (iGO) can do it, provided there are roads to get there. When off-road, OziExplorer can add a waypoint, but won't exactly tell you to turn left/right etc, but simply tell you which direction the waypoint is, because generally it doesn't know the route to take. AFAIK!

    G'day Ranga

I've noticed in the feedback comments for that unit it is now supplied with CE 6.0 ... is that a problem or a benefit

I've procrastinated about getting a unit for various reasons and now that I'm ready don't really know what to do anymore.

No different really. Just means you can modify the original menu, which hardly gets used anyway. No difference in functionality.

    sscmez just do it.

The 5" screen is fine I reckon (I had a 4.3" Hema previously and this is MUCH better than it was).

Oh and the customer service is superb
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    "Ranga's" GPS - AV in?

Does the 5" unit that Ranga originally recommended (or at least the latest version of it) have AV in suitable for connecting a reversing camera. Looking at the photos on the DX site for variious models it would appear to have an AV in port, but it is not labeled as such, whereas other models have a label in the photos to indicate the AV in.
Has anyone asked DX to supply the unit with Australian maps instead of the US?
    Cheers
    Roger
PS. Ranga, yes I think you have achieved your 15 mins and a few more besides. Thanks for all your efforts.

The recommended 5" gps does work Ok with AV in from a reversing camera. If it doesn't work first time persist with it as mine took a little while to work but is great now.

I also bought the recommended reversing camera form the same site.

    Hi there Ranga,

I got one of the units awhile back and you did the software for me. Is there any IGO updates that can be put on. If there is how do i go about getting these updates on my system.

    Which unit

Hi Ranga/all, my first post but I've been watching this for a while. Fantastic sustained effort from Ranga.
I have a small screen gps for on road use but I don't have any experience of off road units. Is there much difference in the units from deal extreme,ie better manufacturers? Is a faster processor of any benefit, what is the consensus regarding best screen size, ie is there a benefit in a small light unit or larger screen, and when is it best to go to a netbook.
