Well I finally got the DX GPS unit and have it running thanks to Ranga but I am having a bit of trouble hooking up the wireless reversing camera. It was working at first but then it doesn't want to go. Not sure if it is something to do with the cables or I am expecting it to transmit too far. The camera is at the back of my caravan so that would make it about 10 metres between the transmitter and the 12v plug/receiver. Or perhaps it doesn't like to be on continuously.
Has anyone else experienced this and what is the fix?
Roger
I would have thought that the distance is too far - the signal is being lost when travelling through the metal of the caravan and then the car.
It works Ok on my 101 I have set up (temporarily) the transmitter inside so it is line of site to the receiver so mine works OK.
My brother put a wireless system on his Hilux and it would not work - he converted it to a wired system and works OK.
So it depends on the car and the shielding it has in it.

For those looking for a 7" solution, I notice the Samsung Galaxy Tab is now only $360 at JB Hifi and ~$410 at Telstra shops.
They're a lovely little unit, and come with Navigon nav software already installed with Aussie maps. They also do 3G for internet and can even make phone calls (although you'd only want to do it handsfree via bluetooth).
OziExplorer has an Android alpha version. Not sure if it's going to make it into production, but here's hoping it does or something else comes along.
Unfortunately, the only thing missing at this stage that I can see is compatibility with a rear view camera. I'll keep my finger on the pulse and keep you updated on this front.
Has anyone put one of the 5" or 6" models flush inside the D3 cubby hole? Size wise looks like they fit but not sure if the cables cause a problem (I want to run them behind the unit and out of sight).
How is reception if I recess it into the cubbyhole (bit average I'd recon)
The original unit is US$86.91 so a bit cheaper in AUD$ now at about 1.02 paypal exchange rate. I've ordered one now so a week or two wait I guess.
Hoping to hook this up to a reversing cam and use for Nav. I've done the Aux input mod on my D3 so also have a fairly easy option to run run the audio from the unit to the stereo.
A couple of questions...
I notice it ships with a 2GB SD card, I assume I should get a 8GB card to hold extra map data, software and music?
Is there a current reliable image I can download onto the SD card?
Do I need to flash the actual unit itself?
I aslo intend to hardwire this into a permanent on 12v feed. Does the unit go to sleep if I just leave it powered on all the time or can I set it up to sleep via a touch icon on the unit?
If you want heaps of maps, get at least a 4GB, but preferably an 8GB card.
I can hook you up with all the software you need.
There's no need to flash WinCE6 deveices (what your's almost certainly will be).
AFAIK it won't automatically sleep, but gives you the option of sleep or shut down when you hit the power button.
Hi all,
Thanks Ranga for the wonderful thread that you started way back.
Will be getting one of the 5" units for a mate and one for me as well very shortly.
What I would like to know is I have a Magellan Discovery Oz sd card with both on road and off road maps on it,will I be able to load these onto the units?
My Magellan Explorist xxxx itself within 14months of ownership and they wanted $400 to fix-havent bothered--but still have the maps on the card.
Thanks in advance.
Cheers
