Bluefin do the same. It is so you down load the VIN number so the map can only be put on that car.
Copy protection in fact.
I went to see Bruce Davis at Davis Performance Landy in Annangrove, western Sydney. What a great job this guy and his team did. I described my needs and he modified the generic ECU remap to allow and OMG it works. Take off and change to a higher speed and towing are greatly improved.
No longer having to take that long run up to overtake a car while towing our 2500kg caravan, come up behind and just put the foot down and pull out and go. Very easy to do 120km up a hill towing the caravan, need to be very careful as it just goes.
I have found Bruce to have great customer skills as on multiple occasions after work he has rung me to find out how it was working.
Superchip gives an impressive result too. I have had my ecu remapped in three RRS in total and everyone who drives is blown away by the results.... 700nm and 200+kw..... hard to beat...

Was the RRS a TDV8 or SDV6?
I rang Bruce today at Davis Landy and I have to echo Grovers comments, he couldn't be more helpful. He was the first to identify that due to mine being a manual it is unlikely that the standard 'Generic' tune would work very well. He will need the vehicle over night to sort out a proper flash for it but he is very confident that he will be able to sort something out. The price quoted was very good as well, now it will just be a case of organising a time to get the vehicle up there for the work to be done.

Well had the ECU tune/upgrade done by Bruce at Davis Performance Landys. I must say I was quite impressed with the service. No mucking around, no hassles. I had to get into the City so they drove me down to the train station and picked me up as well, nothing was too much hassle.
Even though I only had it in for the tune, they gave it a once over for me at no charge. The price was very reasonable, $700 for the tune as I didn;t really need the box to upload and download as mine will not be going back to Land Rover as it is well and truley out of warranty (2005 model).
How is the performance? We objectively it seems to come on boost around 500rpm sooner, so while not totally get rid of the flat spot it has reduced it considerably. As for outright power, the difference is marked. I didn't get a chance to do before and after dyno runs but it feels as strong. It revs more effortlessly and will comfortable pull through to 4000rpm though there is no need as short shifting at 2500rpm will still get you moving faster than it did before ringing it's neck.
There is no longer any need to drop out of 6th to overtake at a reasonable pace either which will be a bonus when pulling the camper trailer.
All in all very happy with the bang for buck. Not too sure on the fuel economy but I did a 450km of mixed city highway driving on the way up and it averaged bang on 10l/100km with the cruise on 115km/h on the highway. I will try and fill again at around the same km to see what sort of difference there is but looking at the gauge I don't think that it will be a great deal, though I note that these things tend to such the juice when you are up over 110km/h
Take it for what it is worth but my thoughts on the ECU upgrade that I have just had done.
