The parts I purchased from Mr Mobile was the RAM TAB-TITE Cradle, The short double clamp and a diamond and a square base with 1" ball.

I made a piece of perspex to fit in the cubby and screwed it in on a downward incline with the square base attached. The picture below shows the square base and ball attached to the perspex in the cubby.

Then its a simple matter of attaching the short arm and the Tab Tite holder.

Here's the finished product when the iPad is inserted

I also made the Aux mod to the car and placed the 3.5 mm stereo jack next to the ciggie lighter socket which has a mini USB converter installed - So a 30 pin to USB and 3.5mm audio stereo cable and an apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter completes the setup.

All up I think it looks fairly neat.
    Very neat, looks great.

    Thanks. I'm fairly pleased.

A note for anyone looking at the RAM cradles for iPad Mini. There are two basic types. One type is very slimline fitting the iPad like a glove - but does not allow the iPad to have any cover/case/protector. If you choose this type you'll need to remove the cover before placement, and then put the cover back on when you take it out.

The other type is the TAB-TITE. The one shown in the picture. It has quite large end clamps which whilst not a slim looking can cater for a very bulky iPad cover, meaning that you don't need to take the cover on and off all the time.

I am thinking I will salary sacrifice an iPad mini and go the same route, I am pretty keen on getting a similar setup, and personally the full size iPad is a bit big for the cabin in my opinion.

Make sure you get the iPad Mini with the internal GPS. The WiFi only one has no GPS.

I adapted a cheap windscreen mount to fit my tablet:

I have found a program to turn sat images into ozi explorer (or Map Maker) map files.

On the weekend I had a crack at making a holder for my Galaxy Tab and it seems to have worked out OK.

Made from 12mm ply, it is restrained above the existing info display by an angle that hooks under the dash upholstery and at the back of the unit (toward the front of the car), it is zipped tied to the demister vent.

The only thing I had to buy was the rubber channel to protect the dash. The rest of the materials were already laying around in the shed.

The zip tie fixing may be up graded in version 2 but I may also learn to live with it
