“Digging up an old thread here but can't find the answer I'm looking for in any other threads. I'm starting to look to replace the 19" Wranglers on my D4 but just HT's for road use around town.
I have a set of 18" Compomotives with D697's for when I actually to get to use my car off road. Most of the discussion I can find is on ATs for mixed on / off road use.”

As an aside I recently replaced the Wranglers with Michelin Latitude Tour HP’s and although they are expensive, very happy with them and they do seem slightly more surefooted in the wet than the Wranglers.

I had a set of 19" Federal Couragia F/X on an RRS TDV8 which I purchased about 4 years ago. They were very good in the wet and I got around 55,000 klms out of them. Would buy them again if I need "road" tyres. Not expensive.

    Now: MY13 D4 TDV6. "E" rear diff. Cambo's magic Engine & Auto Tune. 1968 Austin 1800 Mk1 auto (my 5th)

On my range rover sport 2008 tdv8 (disco3 with funky body), I recently changed my compomotive 18" with general tire grabber at3 255/55R18 to the standard 19" and new pirelli verde all season 255/50R19. That made a huge difference to handling and comfort. The underdamped shox feeling was greatly reduced too. I drive on fast windy country road including dirt. Still drives across wet paddocks on the property OK. Not cheap though. (compomotives now have D697 265/60R18 for trips only; the general tire at3 where better than the D697 on road too).

I'm on my 2nd set of Pirelli Scorpian AT Plus tyres on my D4. I really like them! very sure footed, even in severe wet conditions and quiet. I like the way the D4 drives with them. I rarely go off sealed roads but tow a boat to some fairly remote places and like the AT design just in case. If I never left the bitumen I would probably still go with the Pirellis! Not cheap, but I got 80,000 km out of the last set.
