If the factory rack is 20kg that only leaves 50 of kgs to load on top. Eeek that's two jerrycans or 1 rooftop tent.

That's including rack.
Maximum roof load is 71.8kg (less the weight of the roof rails & cross bars) for "Factory Roof Rails & Cross Bars".
For the Expedition Rack it lowers again to 54.3kg (less the weight of the rack & rails).
IIRC it's in the manual but also Sniegy's post here:
http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...f-loading.html
These are dynamic figures. Sniegy's comment from the same thread:
"While the vehicle is stationary it can increase, but i do not have a load reference for it"

From memory it's more than that .... 30kg comes to mind.
Note also that you can get short length ones that obviously weigh less.
Less area for carrying stuff but then again you can't put too much up there before overloaded.
I got a short Rhino Pioneer Platform partly for this reason and partly for its low profile.
Here's a couple of good threads that cover a lot of the options:

Scott thanks for those links, I will be going the Frontrunner rack and rear wheel carrier.
Can anyone clarify if a SDV6 D4 SE 7 has rear air conditioning, it's showing on LR website spec that rear climate is an option, is there still vents in second and third row? And does that mean that the vehicle wouldn't have the aircon lines under the rear wheel arch. Because if it doesn't have the lines under rear wheel arch I'm going to go with the 265/65-18 (31.5") as it seems minimal modifications to have them fit in. I will be fitting Llams regardless.
Tombie I don't think I will ever require snow chains, if I did it would have to be rear only I suppose.
If someone could clarify the air con lines under rear guard it would be appreciated. Cheers.

Babs.
Seeing you are new to our area you may not have seen the Backbone rack.Unsure of the weights,my eye tells me its the nicest setup.
See this thread, when I buy a rack its the way I think I will go.

Rear air would be an option in SE,standard in HSE I believe.
If you have rear air the lines definately go in the rear gaurd.
In the non rear air D4 like mine the second row get aircon air from the centre console vents, there are plastic ducts under the front seats in mine,I suspect these may supply air up the sides of the rear windows, for the 3rd row,but Ive never looked.
