Or rather, when are the minor annoying issues going to start appearing?
Have you stuck to the Landrover recommended service intervals or have you been more "Proactive" with the servicing on your D4 and done it more often?
Also have you had your D4 serviced by a Landrover dealership or have you done the services yourself?

Up until now - dealer servicing to arduous use schedule.
Some maintenance - Hydro bushes etc, done by me.

Keep in mind my dealer (8 hour return trip) is arguably one of the best at looking after owners.

Quick checks post service indicated work was carried out to my expectations.

The service the vehicle is about to receive from me will be the first complete service carried out in MY workshop and includes:

    All fluids; all compartments.
Cooling system flush and refill with new outlet
    Brake line replacement

That’s the current gap isn’t it!

Don’t forget either, like phones it becomes an embedded technology... if you’re set up a certain way, why change if the benefit isn’t multitudes of gain/savings. Some things move very slowly in this game.

Aside from a few LV dual cabs most mine LVs are Prado now.. Something any of the current offering could easily do. (Mine Spec Disco Sport anyone?) but LR won’t sell their product at the price Toyota do.

An example: GXL 200 Land Cruisers at a nearby Gold Mine were $45k to purchase..

It's a shame that you weren't the previous owner of my D2a.
If you were then I wouldn't have had to spend so much time and money fixing stuff do to lack of servicing.
It is a real pity that more owners don't use the arduous maintenance schedule.

    True!

I still do all the servicing on my previous D2 - my son owns it. D4 2010 3.0 TDV6 future proofing

The majority of our mine vehicles here are duel cab utes. Mostly hiluxes but any that have been replaced in the last 3-4 years have been rangers. The pit still use landcruiser 70 series and only superintendents and up get prado's. Your right about the vehicle change - our LV workshop is setup for what we have. The main reason we started going rangers here was back when hiluxes where not ANCAP 5 star rated and the rangers where (must have been a good fleet deal thrown in as well to seal the deal?)

I think that the whole point is that if you can diagnose a fault, airbag the part & fit it while far from a dealer then ok but if not, you are better off in a Toyota.

How many country workshops do you think have all the Toyota diagnostic gear? D4 2010 3.0 TDV6 future proofing

As the Toyota Hilux and the 70 series are a pretty basic ute the need for specialised diagnostic equipment isn't as critical as it is for a Discovery because there isn't anything on them that is particularly high tech whizz bang electrical wizardry .
I haven't owned any of the Toyota SUV's so I don't know how involved the electronics are on these But I am willing to bet that there would be more country workshops out there with Toyota diagnostic gear than there would with Landrover gear.

More than have the Land Rover gear. ...but it’s really the diagnostic gear between the ears, more the inclination that really counts.
