Sheared 2 studs. Car started vibratingso I started to slow down with light breaking, vibrated worse, felt like the abs kicked in. Once I hit the dirt at the side of the highway, BANG! Wheel tried to make a run for it! Salvaged the wheel arch but the wing is toast. Not sure what other damage until they get to look at it on Monday.

Did you recover the studs and wheel nuts?
Ask the shop to check the wheel nut torque on all the other wheels. The only way the studs could shear is if they've been grossly over tightened or if the wheel nuts were loose. I've experienced loose wheel nuts on a rough road in a SIII (mate who borrowed the car had forgotten to tighten them when he swapped the wheels over). Even in that car the wobble was noticeable so I stopped to investigate. But the D4 would probably mask it a bit.

Never recovered the nuts or found the sheared bolts. It was after dark. Was lucky I found the the to be honest! I think the corrugated road to kalamina gorge had something to do with it. I drove over 300 km home before the vibration and within seconds the wheel was off! No other warning.

Hit the tracks at Lithgow with the brother-in-law and family yesterday. Not only did the Discovery far outperform the D-Max, I came home with one less fault! All the shaking got the cruise control working again!

You could just buy the bush and take some measurements to have one made up. I'm not sure where the arm tool is these days. A user in Hornsby bought it from me and im not sure if he still has it.

The most useful part is the two piece pulling plate. The bushes are so tight im not sure a universal one would work. The cheaper cast plates i have definitely wouldnt work. They are too thick.

Yeah the two peice plate is the part I'll get made. It's in the to do list..

A run into the Adelaide hills to get a ton of sandstone and 1/2 ton of granite in a tandem trailer to finish our outdoor room. Alaska effortlessly ran up the Expressway Hill at 100kmh. We even passed another 4wd with an empty horse float.

We love Alaska.

Hi Turtle, good setup. Looks like Mark from Tough Touring's handiwork on the mounting of the awning (Darche Eclipse 270 I think?). I like the Bundutop cowling that covers the gap between the roof top walls and the awning... is that an add-on or the Darche cover bag? Also, with the Bundutop, I have seen a quick hack where you can use a small motor bike style battery with two metal probes off the +ve and -ve terminals that you can touch to the two bypass probes on the side of the raise/lower button so that you can raise and lower without having to connect up the Anderson lead.
We went with the Ostrich Wing Awning (D4 Camping Setup with Rooftop Tent), similar structure and weight of materials... the crunch point is the hinge... and looks to be pretty solid on both.
