Had a bit of a look at one of those "rent a host" places and reckon with a hoist and transmission jack for a day I could manage it.
The transfer case is about 42kg and the gearbox is 57kg. I reckon with the right tools I can do that.

I'm still going to get some estimates to get it done, but the parts are getting harder to find, especially here where they aren't particularly common.
Good practice is just to get the flywheel skimmed if it's still within speccwd thickness. Any decent brake shop should have a centreless grinding machine, last two clutch jobs i did went to the same brake shop, they did an awesome job. One was on a flywheel that had seen over 200000km and the last 1000 were pretty tough. Definitely replace clutch release bearing and best add in some bottles of brake fluid to bleed that circuit too.

Try exedy clutches, ive used them and I like them, they have them for the D3 2.7:

I've got access to an engine stand, but I reckon a men's shed with a hoist and a decent two days work should see it done.

Yowza. The price I listed was clutch, flywheel, bearing and shipping from the UK. The Exedy clutch is marginally (between $20-$200 depending on where I look) cheaper and doesn't include the flywheel!

I think the problem is the Dual Mass flywheel is "not recommended" to be resurfaced.

Yep, skimming it would be a waste of time, as it's more likely the arc springs are flogged, this can also feel like clutch slip as the disc operating surface can slip on the primary ( mounting ) surface.

Unfortunately, you'll probably need a new one, I think LUK clutches are Ford OEM so that might be another option.

Don't forget new flywheel bolts as they'll probably be TTY.

I know the flywheel really needs replacing. There's a characteristic "tic tic tic" sound right at that point where there's no load on the drive train. On a slight downhill for example where the downhill acceleration due to gravity is roughly equal to the frictional load of the engine. Apparently that is wear on the flywheel spring mechanism. Even the later Volvos I grew up with had DMFs and the recommendation was to replace them rather than resurface (or replace them with a conventional flywheel and clutch. Not an option on the D3).

I've been looking at LOF cluches, and yes LUK are the genuine flywheel supplier. So about a thousand pounds for a landrover flywheel, or about 300 for the LUK. Postage on 30kg of cast iron isn't cheap through. No point me buying it though if I want someone else to fit it for me.

In the grand scheme of things, the costs for a new ckutch and flywheel doesn't seem too bad then.

I do know that Dovers Rovers in Wangara will fit parts you supply.

Brad, check out partsguru | All Automotive Brands , I've found them excellent for suppling unobtanium at sensible prices.
The fact that they could identify the part from some obscure information, when specialist suppliers couldn't, was a bonus. Local to you, too.
