Exclamation Aerpro CALR05 for fitting double DIN aftermarket headunits into low spec D4 vehicles

Sometime ago I posted a thread Aerpro FP8409K Install kit to suit Landrover discovery 4 - allows aftermarket double < Aerpro FP8409K Install kit to suit Landrover discovery 4 - allows aftermarket double >, regarding the Aerpro FP8409K product. Cambo from Old Jag advised as that the kit wasn't suitable as it was only comparable with the higher spec vehicles - i.e. those that already had the larger touch screen and could have a reverse camera integrated in the factory setup so why would they need/want to modify the dash and fit an aftermarket double DIN headunit?

According to Tony on the AULRO Facebook Group page at AULRO (Australian Landy Owners Group) public group | Facebook his vehicle with the low spec (small non-touch screen display) has been fitted with a double DIN aftermarket headunit and has both reverse parking sensors and steering wheel controls working fitted by Cairns Customs.
This seems to have been achieved by using the FP8409 dash kit < Aerpro | First Choice > - which is just the plastic dash trim parts, no electronics included.
And Aerpro seem to have released a new product, the CALR05 Infodapter to suit landcover discovery iv < Aerpro | First Choice >. If you read the description on their page it states:

    • NOTES:
      • Land Rover Discovery 4 Infodapter interface for vehicles with basic display only.
    Tony's original setup:

    After the work was done:

Note: you'll note that his original setup didn't have the analogue clock either. He says he purchased the clock from eBay UK and added it in. I've asked why it has different time to the headunit, as I can't see adjustment buttons to set the time on the clock, but haven't had a reply yet.

I'm going to have to go and chat to our local dealer about having an Aerpro FP8409 and CALR05 fitted with an Alpine iLX-107 Wireless Apple Car Play Audio Visual Receiver < iLX-107 - Alpine Electronics of Australia >

For anyone interested, the LR part numbers for the analogue clock are:

    LR019209 - ЧАСЫ (CLOCK) [ (V)AA000001 - (V)AA520543 ]
    LR020140 - > ЧАСЫ (CLOCK) [ (V)AA520544 - (V)AA528240 ]
    LR020154 - > ЧАСЫ (CLOCK) [ (V)AA528241 - (V)AA541412 ]
    LR023521 - > ЧАСЫ (CLOCK) [ (V)AA541413 - (V)DA667189 ]
    LR050176 - ЧАСЫ (CLOCK) [ (V)DA667190 - ]

No idea what changed between them for the different VINs...

Connects 2 is the original supplier of the parts/components that Aerpro is rebranding as their own. Looks like they've updated their offers too:

CTKLR10 < https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CTKLR10 > for the full kit of dash trim and electronics to suit the low spec vehicles (this kit looks to be all the components that Aerpro are supplying under two seperate part numbers of CALR05 for the electronics and FP8409 for the dash trim pieces):
For vehicles with basic display. Retains steering wheel controls, USB input, vehicle warning/park assist functionality and settings menus. Allows for relocation of OEM clock and button panel
    CTULR05 < https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CTULR05 > is what Aerpro call CALR05.

    CT23LR08 <https://connects2.com/Product/ProductItem/CT23LR08 > being what Aerpro call FP8409.

EDIT: he advises that the clock is not working.

So from what I’m reading all the factory settings are retained? Correct me if I’m wrong.

The CALR05 adaptor kit is not new, it's been out for a while. Yes it's made by Connects2 in the UK.

    BUT (very big BUT)

It is not compatible with the Base / Low-Line system in the 2010-2011 model year D4. Regardless of what they say on their website.

The Base system in the 2010-2011 is totally different to the 2012-2016 system. The connectors aren't even the same.

The CALR05 works with the 2012-2016 models only. I'm quite sure the guys at Cairns Customs haven't used that kit, otherwise the analogue clock would be working, and we would see pictures of the vehicle settings menu.

It's possible to get the steering wheel controls working with an aftermarket head unit in a 2010-2011, would just need to modify one of the usual steering wheel control interfaces.

But the full integration with the vehicle settings menu, that's another story.

To me (I’m thinking of upgrading to an Apple play style of unit in the near future also - D4 2013) it sounds like this solution is an easier fix

Absolutely. If you have a 2013+ it’s a no brainer.

Well my photos have been hijacked ...

    I had started a thread 2010 3ltr D4 SE aftermarket radio (finally)

The 2010 and 2011 D4 with low/base radio utilises FoMoCo parts, the small screen is from the PX Ranger (some were blue at Ford) and the CD player a Focus and unique in the D4 range.
    PIC_20190719_135650_DSC_0194.jpgPIC_20190719_135640_DSC_0193.jpg

The CARL05 kit is the bases for my installation and Aeropro Australia worked with the Connects2 UK to get this kit up and running, there were a few of us who were test beds for this to be completed. This is/will be updated since my and a ferw other installs in Australia and the UK. So the changed information is not wrong, just not explained well.

I never has a digital clock in the first place so no wiring or controls for one, so did not expect this to be intergrated, but I will get it to work one day

in reality the only thing that does not function is the Time and Date on the Dash, that was controlled by the small screen.
There was no other intergration to the vehicle on the base model.

The steering wheel audio and telephone buttons all work.

I chose the Kenwood systen DMX8018S so that I can use Android Auto, listen to radio - talking books and podcast via USB, I wanted and not hook up via the 3.5mm AUX plug or by some aftermarket bluetooth plugged into the AUX.
It also combines a Dash Cam with GPS location, I can change the screen to front camera at any time. It also has a reversing camera which I did not have in the first place.

The reversing sensors work, well in mine it just screams at me as I have a Kaymar bar and dual wheels on it.

In Android Auto I get maps via WAZE or Google Maps, I will instal the AAMirror.APK to my phone so that I can mirror the off road maps from my phone sometime.

The Google assistant voice activation is next to none, I don't need to touch anything once turned on.

I had removed my dash and all components 5 times reinstalling it 4 times, Cairns Customs did the last instal I personally would like to thank AEROPRO and the Suppliers Connect2 and especially Cairns Custom and Car Sound who did all the legwork for this to work.

Thanks Cambo. Are you sure that the changeover for connections etc. was between 2011 and 2012? I only question as the model range update seemed to be from MY2012 to MY2013 where there were a few significant things such as dropping of the 2.7 TDV6 replaced with a low power 3.0 TDV6 motor and shift from 6 speed to 8 speed transmission. Strange that they updated the electrics/media side from 2011 to 2012 changeover but the drivetrain from 2012 to 2013.
My MY2012 (date of build May 2012) model has the exact same looking low spec media system as Tony's MY2010 vehicle.

EDIT: just took another look at the various pictures and realised that Tony's has two buttons on the right side of his original screen so is actually different. Apologies.

Yep, I did hyperlink in your photos but they're not highjacked, its your original photos hosted where you put them and I referenced you, not claiming any as my own. Hopefully you don't mind too much. Regardless this has resulted in some good discussion for the benefit of all and that's what we are all here for. Thanks for the ground work.

It's great that they got this working for you. In saying that I hope nobody rushes out and buys a CALR05 kit for their 2010-2011 model right now, because the standard product is just not compatible.

I expect Connects2 & Aerpro would release a new kit, with a different part number, to work with the 2010-2011 models.

I looked into retrofitting the factory analogue clock as part of the install in the 2012-2016 models.

At least in the 2012-2016 models, if you wire the clock up correctly, it should work in conjunction with the CARL05 kit, as that system gives you access to the functions of the settings menu of the factory radio.
It's explained in the Connects2 manual here http://www.connects2downloads.co.uk/...LR05_IG_v1.pdf
It may be necessary to enable the Analogue Clock in the CCF, there is an option for this, but I haven't tried it yet tbh...

Thanks Cambo. Appreciate you sharing some of your knowledge. Wish your Sydney workshop wasn't such a drive from Hobart or I'd have my vehicles with you already!
