For tax reasons this equaled a small 4 pot

Now this hairdressers SUV may as well have a Bugatti W16
    It ain’t no commercial vehicle!

The target market (if hilux et al is the target market) have 4, 5 & 6 cylinder diesels. They have the motor designed anyway - as if they wouldn't put it in!

Oh and the defender had a 5 cylinder in it for a few years too

My understanding was it was a Euro/UK tax concession on low capacity engines for commercial vehicles?

But yeah if it fits jam it in!

I’m not sure if the irony is lost on anyone (I doubt it)
But ALL the fanbois (on this thread) of this jigger are Rangiephiles and Discophiles
Which honestly is fine by me but hilarious none the less.

calling this thing a defender which is in no way agricultural or commercial or IMHO real is a farce! I guess though some would say a D5 is a commercial vehicle because some euro police force bought a few?

Now don’t get me wrong, heck one day I might even buy one - but less than 0% of me will think it was a defender. This whole shizzle is about nomenclature.

The rest of the range doesn't fit my brief (capability plus comfort plus decent tyres plus a bit of boxiness), but I think this one could. No V8 will be a bitter pill to swallow, but a stonking blown straight six may be a reasonable consolation in this day and age. They can keep the threes and fours for other vehicles in their range. Needs to have six pots or more to get that refined smoothness expected in a modern (luxury) offering. I drive highly boosted fours daily and getting back into the TDV8 is a revelation each time. So smooth. I know the V6 is similar in that regard. Four pots being stuffed with 54psi of boost give great numbers, but lack refinement. Bring on the Ingenium six... please.
I'm with you on the V8, maybe SVX will do one, but yeah the turbo, charged 6 will be my pick until an 8 is avail.

They apparently will have 3cyl hybrid, 4cyl hybrid, straight 6 etc..range of engines.

Modern vehicles come with engines to suit everyone's needs.

Ingenium six is supercharged AND turbocharged Debuting in the Rangie Sport (I think?) Before appearing in many other JLR vehicles. I'm hoping this engine gets into the Defo somewhere somehow.
