Oh,the roof, more camouflage to keep us guessing

Or it could be a heap of electronics to trial them as google mapping vhicles

    All,smoke and mirrors.
I noticed what looks to be roof racks onto roof rails, zoomed on original screenshots pics. Also camo comes up higher on side maybe to conceal racks/rails..and yes the weird beacons that have been seen on lots of pilots

However, I looked again at a picture of a Disco 5 engine bay, because I had a feeling there wasn't much located on the outer edges that would preclude fixed wing tops on the new Defender, and I noticed that the shut line curves outwards almost exactly in line with where the forward engine bay seal runs along the rear of the radiator support panel on the Disco 5. I still think that such a fussy shut line would be a styling disaster, create a complex bonnet pressing and lead to dented wing tops the same way they end up on an old Defender when worked on by a dealer tech. If you were going to do something like that, why not just place a straight shut line back from the leading edge of the 'bonnet' and fit a sort of composite nosecone like many modern cars? Surely that would be a cleaner solution (if still not great for styling), increase pedestrian safety and be more easily repaired / replaced in the event of a minor impact?

On an unrelated note, that's an interesting licence plate placement on the car on the left in blackrangie's latest post. I reckon it visually shortens and widens the whole car.
Put all this together with lucky8's defender update video where they comfirm coolers are moved up into "engine bay" compared to D5, that could be reason why front section is not "part of engine bay, could have coolers up there, that gain air from middle or lower, then out to wheel?

My RRS is now 12 years old and I have had it for 10 years - has been the most reliable vehicle I have ever owned. Getting close to the time to consider a change.

Other than a newer RRS all other LR products are off the list - must be a proper 4wd and not look dog ugly like the D5. For me I could never see the value of a new Puma - big dollars for rippled panels and leaks worse than a convertible with the top down.

People have been lamenting that the new Defender will not be like the old one but really in my view the old Defender was a dinosaur that should have been pensioned off 20 years ago. I think LR would have been silly to stay with something along the old theme and what I am seeing with the pics of the mules and recent Invictus pics of the new Defender is a welcome relief for me.

So as long there will be different trim levels and at least some goodies in it, I would certainly have a look at it for my new vehicle. Too early just yet but things are looking promising.

Some new news articles, pick for me is LRO's, picked up on a few things we didnt. So looks like we have F/R/L/R cameras, disappearing bonnet and 360 top view?

Prince Harry Gets Closer Look at Next Defender — LRO

"The horizonal lines across the headlamps could be light guards (absent on official shots of test mules), or part of the disguise. The Invictus Defender is on road-biased Continental tyres.

It also appears to have a downward-facing camera mounted in the middle of the radiator grille. Is this to help the driver see over the imposing bonnet and pick his way over rough terrain?"

I am in almost exactly the same boat as Garry, except I've had my L320 for less time and am not quite ready to upgrade. I am eyeing off this new Defender as a potential addition at some time. The rest of the range doesn't fit my brief (capability plus comfort plus decent tyres plus a bit of boxiness), but I think this one could. No V8 will be a bitter pill to swallow, but a stonking blown straight six may be a reasonable consolation in this day and age. They can keep the threes and fours for other vehicles in their range. Needs to have six pots or more to get that refined smoothness expected in a modern (luxury) offering. I drive highly boosted fours daily and getting back into the TDV8 is a revelation each time. So smooth. I know the V6 is similar in that regard. Four pots being stuffed with 54psi of boost give great numbers, but lack refinement. Bring on the Ingenium six... please.

Think BMW straight 6's from the early 1990's...if they can so a turbine smooth motor like that with a supercharger (fat chance) or turbo sweet as.

    Cheers

The fact a six is even a consideration just shows how far the LR2020 has fallen
The defender always had a small Diesel engine as it WAS A Commercial spec vehicle.
For tax reasons this equaled a small 4 pot

Now this hairdressers SUV may as well have a Bugatti W16
    It ain’t no commercial vehicle!
