They've had to do best a lot of money in the MLA platform, hybrids and the Defender family, but they will expect to get it back many times over in coming years.
Australia is a minor market for JLR. Their big targets are China, the USA and Europe.
What is interesting about Defender is that it influenced other purchases. So it's the legend of the rugged Defender that influences a lot of people to purchase the softer LR products.
So provided the new Defender is genuinely tough and able compared to say G Wag' and 200 Series then it will sell well (price permitting) and will keep the 'legend ' alive for others in the LR stable.
If LR hit Camel style challenges again it would help sell the new Defender.
Cheers

Hmmm
It just shrunk again!
A lightweight is not exactly a huge vehicle
The LR2020 is in front so geometrically magnified and it isn’t exactly dwarfing the LightWeight?
I want some actual specifications!

'95 130 dual cab fender (gone to a better universe)
'10 130 dual cab fender (getting to know it's neurons)
I think the photo was concocted, there appears to be some lighter coloured artefacts/outlining around the wheels and underneath of both vehicles.
As to the thing on top, maybe testing some autonomous kit, or maybe just an indicator for when the driver wants an ice-cream.
