I don't think so,they have too many other models for the yuppies, and will pull through.
As long as their sales numbers don't continue to fall,as they have in many countries, including here.
Their market here is very small,i think around 3 to 5% of their total world sales, maybe less.
The smaller vehicles such as Disco Sport, and Epoke sell pretty well, particularly in Europe.
But they have to invest heavily in hybrids, and eventually EV's,or they will go downhill.
Their massive investment in diesels will probably now take a lot longer to pay off.
The Deefer will just be another model in the line up,even if it doesn't sell well at the start, they will modify it for sure, but what market it is actually targeted at we will have to wait and see.
EDIT I recon the new Defender wagon, will be more like targeted to the D4 kind of market, now the D5 is virtually a RR.
It will fit in that gap,and move away from the old Defender market.
We haven't seen a mule of a ute yet,so maybe there isn't one?
Who knows?

They should cut the entire Jag lineup. It’s the same as Land Rover anyway.
Ooohh Defender anticipation is hotting up! Yes it is make or break. If it’s another $90K+ SUV - Break. If it’s a real Defender work truck, starting at $60K - Make.
Shorties are only practical for a small percentage of people. They will need to market a long wheel base thats got air but no dearer than Wildtrac and they would have a chicken dinner.
Cheers
Correct.
Matey, ya can't expect to bash JLR the brand of car I've owned and loved 5 of on a land rover forum continuously with the same stuff and not expect a reply.
And especially when ones bash JLR and praise non JLR companies which do exactly the same if not worse. I ask myself, why are people like this here and what are they contributing in a positive way.
If people want to get excited about the new defender, let them
If JLR wants to Hype it, even better.
Having an opinion is fine, makes for great discussion and debates, however bashing everything JLR Defender current and unreleased on these threads since they started gets a bit much for a forum of enthusiasts that are for the most part genuinely interested in what is to come.

I reckon the HSE Lux model will be deliberately and very attractively priced under a G-wagon. To succeed/compete in this niche market it needs to strike the right balance of square/retro appearance, on road performance (EAS & SC petrol), reliable & attractive technology, and Lux features. It also needs to be accepted to have at least similar off road capability to a G. Not that this is actually important to such an owner as most Gs don’t leave the black top.
