Oh,well, here we go again.....
no comment...
Continuing on from much earlier posts,LR have pushed their current models continually up to the next class.Defender stayed the same, but using the Disco as an example, its now gone from a family affordable touring wagon to virtually a rebadged Range Rover.
Sure a poverty pack D5 is available, but has less features than a Hyundai, for a ridiculous cost.In fact to replace my poverty pack D4,i need to spend well over $100K.Cant see the value in a new one at all.It definitely isn't a family touring wagon at all anymore.
Range Rover sport has done the same,it was an $80K vehicle when it appeared,in a class similar to D3,or slightly above. Now look where it is.
Looking at other brands, the Patrol has and still is in virtually the same class it always was in,a competitively priced family touring wagon.
Looking at LC 80/100/200 series, the vehicle has changed a lot,but is still in its same class.
Prado is the same, still in the same class as it was when it appeared in the mid 90's.
Pajero is the same, over the years, many changes, but vehicle is still in the same class.
All those vehicles are still affordable family touring wagons.
The 70 series are the same, been in the same class since the 80's.
IMHO,only,i don't think this going up a class, with each model change has been good for the LR brand. It changes the position of the vehicle in the market place.
Sales of the D5 haven't been great,as the salesman at the local dealer said to me,the D5 is difficult to move, and most D3/4 owners that come in,we never see them again. But a good second hand D4 won't stay in the yard for longer than a week.
The sales of the Jap vehicles that stay in the same class, over the years, speak for themselves.
