The JLR Defender icon supports your prediction.

On ugly. The D5 rear end is a strong competitor.
I think the D5 went up in cargo space overall significantly.

    D4

    D5

On ugly, whilst im not a fan yet also, i wasnt with the D3 also.

In all reality look at a stock D4 and a stock D5 rear end, D5 aint that bad, they kept the dip in the rear door to keep it looking disco, but maybe didnt think about the plates enough

When the right plate is used or number plate centering its fine, however after a wheel carrier is added it will be a non issue anyway..for me in a dark colour they look pretty good, fair few getting around here now.

    ‘Boxy shape’,they say?

    Somehow I don’t think so.

I wonder what they call the D4?

    Extra boxy?

I believe the seats in the D5 don’t fold completely flat, unlike the last model.

Having a flat floor in the rear is handy for many reasons.

    Van territory,that’s almost laughable.

    Won’t be retro...

Wow. I’m surprised the D5 cargo space is more than D4.

Centering the rego plate would have helped.

The D5 is what is is and thats a familly station wagon that you can take off road and down to the beach if you so desire., albeit an expensive one and it looks like just any other suburban station wagon.
But in all reality is Isnt really a serious off road touring 4WD "standard issue" although maybe with a Lot of ( Expensive) modifications it Could be a
contender But there are a lot of other "Brands" that are much better suited to this role.

The old series Landrovers and the Defenders were and ARE a serious off road tourers pretty much straight out of the box, Lets hope that JLR continue this tradition with the new Defender
