    These are positives to me;

    1. Its not a rush job - LR are doing the defender replacement project seriously... it would have sucked massively if they adhocly made some horrible retro body and chucked it on a disco base or something.
    2. They seem serious about offroad capability... they're not at Moab just to get a photo of it there.. they're avoiding photographers.. they are testing it.. its not like "here's our new Honda CRV with Moab in the background"
    3. 18" rims seem to be a possibility on some models at least
    4. More on the offroad capability.. sure there are some things that some don't like - like those radiators leading the front wheels, lack of solid floating axles etc.. but things like recovery points and approach angles etc give me hope that the designers aren't creating something that will easily rip a bit of plastic when climbing over rocks.. and a bit of hope that it'll allow for 3rd party equipping like bars, winches, snorkels etc...
    5. The apparently body roll at the Nubrhbhbhbhbbbbring is a good sign!

Just hope I can afford one!
It wouldn't surprise me if they were to be honest...

I agree mate. When I bought my D2 a Defender was the same price as a base model D2. Base model D5 is what $79 on the road (sd4 and not a genuine off roader given no transfer case.low range). A bog stock no options SD6 (the equivalent of all Discos that preceeded it in that it has a low range box) is 92k on the road in Qld. The Defender base model will have more than the sd4 straight away because it will have a transfer case. In addition it will have off road techy bits and travel that D5 SD6 doesn't have... bow base Deefer will probably not have the flash engine of the SD6...so I'm guessing if the base model is air suspended (can't see coils being used) I reckon around mid 80's on road for a 110...maybe a little more.

    Cheers

Agree they won't pricewar, they will offer a superior desirable product to the decerning buyer and will price accordingly, however the old pricing and other models give clues. The price also has to be justifiable to consumers.

They could suprise and price it high for sure, closer to Gwagon Pro territory, however looking at it logically, seeming as though the D5 starts @ 72k and its positioned more up the market (more dash, more centre console, more seats, more storage, more stuff.)

Im thinking it could be reasonable to assume a bare bones would be under D5 and maybe 5-10k higher than current defender 2015 pricing

New defender expected starting price point in press seems to sit around 60-70k, however i think it will go right up into Gwagon professional territory for an SVX and maybe for a SVR version down the track Gwagon territory.

I suppose the question for most on here is how much for an air suspended Deefer with basic wheels and a basic fuel efficient petrol or diesel. The ones up over 100k will be a small part of the market I reckon.

Coils were seen on an early test mule as previously posted, this could be why some of these RRS test mules are still getting around in moab and rockies which is confusing all the journalists, some on air, some on coils is a strong possibility based on the fact that one was seen on coils in the past.

Base model D5 may start around $79K on road, but if you want to replace a poverty pack D4,similar spec to mine,if you get any change out of $100K,you will be doing well.

The new Defender will be in the $85K upwards bracket, for sure.

As others have said,it isn't a vehicle for the masses.

I thought you might post that mate but unless I am very wrong a coiler Defender will not be on the cards. LR say Defender will be their most capable vehicle by far...how can it be if a base model has coils. An sd6 with air suspension would eat it...An Sd4 with air suspension would ! As for comparing retrospectively a stock 99 D2 would eat it off road...think early V6 Petrol D3 coilers... So while coils might be used on mules for some reason I just can't see them being used in production. I can see it now. Stuck in a new coiler Deefer up a narly hill IRS doing nothing in particular and up.past you goes a $30k Triton...live rear axle doing what a coil IRS just can't do.

    Cheers

Ok if we are talking on road it's a different story but usually when you talk new vehicles he took recommended retail, as on roads and final price can vary greatly between dealers as I have found out a few times.

The discovery 2019 starts at 72k recommended retail

My guess is that because the new defender will be more utilitarian then the discovery 5 and the discovery 5 will be pitched as something for people wanting more luxury and a less Boxy Style, the defender may have to start under the recommended retail price of the discovery 5.

However I tend to agree to a point that it could be higher as people will pay more for something that is desirable and they can see the value in.

I'm guessing the reason some are tipping a higher price point is because they can already see the higher value proposition to the customer over the D5. Well I think the discovery 5 will have a higher value proposition to some people and lower to others. Same will be the case with the new Defender.

Well if the D5 which is more upmarket then the Defender has a well-known coil version, I would be extremely surprised if they did not offer coil (option) on the new Defender.

The discovery has won awards for being the best All Terrain 4x4 on the air suspended version all over the world for as long as they have had coil and air options, but that doesn't get cancelled out just because they have a coil version available for those that (chose) to have a coil version.

And why have a coil mule if it isnt on the drawing board, why still drive RRS defender 90 Mules in MOAB and The Rockies if they're not trying to hide something else?

Too much evidence for me points to coils as an option, but who knows you could be right Won’t be retro...

Tritons dont get me started on them Won’t be retro...Won’t be retro...
