Bolly , are not going to be mass marketed, they will def be low volume, and I doubt there will be an AU service / dealer network, but probably just one agent. I'm expecting I'll be on my own and am fully prepared to be self sufficient in that regard, much as I would if it was a personal import, but I also expect they will be close to 100% reliable apart from consumables such as brakes and CV's etc .

Umm,no,us four kids were in the Series 1 for many years and toured all over the countryside.

There was always quite a bit of “discussion” as to who would sit in the middle front seat

Aaaaand that is the whole point that zeros, myself and others have been making over the last 42,345 posts! We predicted that LR would trade on the long loved history of the series / LandRover and Defender and just build another SUV. I have no problems with JLR making an off-road capable 6 seat wagon ... but it’s not in the same as a defender.

That’s the whole friggen point. There are something like 176 non-agricultural sexy SUVs on the market. Just pick one.

I’ve only had two defenders, prior to that I had an SE as Disco 1... it became NOT agricultural enough for what i do?

JLR could have made a 78/79 killer - the market is ripening for that as Tojo runs out of power plants. I reckon if they spent as much as they have on marketing just another boring (the 2020) just building a proper defender with solid warranty they would end up selling as many and actually meeting a growing marketplace.

As predicted this thing will just morph into another JLR SUV no heart no sole and no purpose?

The 79 is a dinosour that is going to be extinct in a few years anyway.
Mines won't touch the dual cab as its not 5 star safety rated.
However they still sell well so who knows.

Defender is future proof,with its current safety, current emissions and future emissions in its design.

Ill admit i like the look of a done up 79!

Will be interesting considering the D5 is getting commercial contracts with governments what deals the tougher New defender will get.

I don't think they will be chasing mine contracts. They will get enough sales with everyone else imo

The 79 has it's strengths but comfort and on road ability isn't one of them. A brand new 79 is still behind a D2 in on and off road comfort.

I am a touch younger and it was only two of us sharing the back seat of a cavernous Jeep Wagoneer on family trips and holidays!
Absolute luxury compared to a Series!
But if the opportunity arose I was straight in the back of my uncles Series 3 canvas top 88!

Pretty sure I remember reading McGovern quoted as saying the Hilux was one of the benchmarks they were aiming to beat.
Plenty of people spend $60k on a dual cab ute so the price range is there.
I reckon LR will spin as many body styles as possible off the platform. For example it's already been reported there will be Defender Sport, I assume on the 90 platform.
More is better.

In my youngest memories, three of us kids shared a sort of 'nest' at the front of the tray on the Model T. No very long trips, although with a top speed of 15mph some of them lasted well into the night. It was a major advance going to the 1931 Swift, 10HP English saloon, with four doors, and a back seat. No boot though so the foot well in the back was full of luggage. Went on several long trips in this, including long distances on unformed roads. Then the Austin 16, which is where I got my licence, and soon stopped travelling in the family car.
